I thought for sure he was going to say it was the BG women which I would have been okay with but nope.  He's so out of touch.

Not have cable....did not see Orr's kid is out for the season and BG lost to X?

I am not sure of that order butI am smart enough to say I have not seen enough of some of those teams (Dayton has been ominously absent from any tv or internet feed this year) to really be able to rank them....why is he even trying for gosh sake? it is not really an article or list that needs to be published.

And really.....elton....you have been at the MAC tourney and covering it for years.....why waste the space by writing Ohio University instead of just OHIO.? Did not see any of the others...Syracuse, Wichita State or ANY others in the list with UNIVERSITY after their name.

I like reading his stuff but I am seeing so many more writers that are just....better....more informed....better sourced....shall I go on?

Elton Alexander is a professional troll. He posts ridiculous statements he doesn't actually believe (.500 BG is the 5th best hoops team in Ohio) to create a buzz for his articles to generate more interest.

Would this article have been posted here if it was a realistic take on things? Maybe on this board if it involved Ohio or someone felt we got snubbed, but what about on other message boards or by other beat writers on twitter urging fans to read? Probably not. I am sure Xavier fans wouldn't have cared if they were #2 behind OSU. Or even #3. But not ranked while two teams they beat are ranked? Yes, that'll absolutely create a buzz. Extra views for the Plain Dealer and Elton!

Personally, I have no problem with this style of writing. Everyone needs to make a living. Views ultimately are the key to getting paid in his job. Elton is one of the best at getting views using this method. Truly a legend in this field.

The next time I care about what he says will be the first time. When we play BG and Toledo we'll see who is better.

I'm normally not at Elton fan, but cmon, he's not THAT bad...

Conspicuous by its absence from this list:  The Akron Zips.

I wouldn't put Bowling Green in the top 5 if you ranked them alphabetically.

That's hilarious. More comedic genius from the man who once called the Charles Ramsey-era Eagles the most talented team in the conference!

Clearly this person is delusional...or was just naming any 5 teams that happen to be in Ohio.  Ohio, Akron, and Kent St all should be ahead of BG right now.

You right. No one is that bad. My comparison was "UNACCEPTABLE"

Getting upset about an Elton Alexander column is like getting upset the morning after picking up a woman at last call at the Greenery (circa 1991) and then realizing she's not as attractive as you thought she was.   If you're reading an Elton Alexander column, you're going to be disappointed and you aren't using good judgment.  You are better off just going home.

Or something like that.

Go Cats.  Beat UMass!!

I didn't know the purpose of a listing of the "Top 5" in a state that has only 13 teams.  TO, you have enlightened me.  Thank you.

Surprised that Villa Angela-St. Joseph wasn't ranked there.

He would have had more credibility if he expanded the list...

Let's even parse this out further...

WHY WOULD ANYONE RANDOMLY RANK THE TOP FIVE TEAMS IN OHIO OUT OF SUCH A SMALL POOL OF TEAMS?

This is like ranking the best four members of the Osmond Family.*

*Clearly, Jimmy was the Youngstown State of the Osmond family.
