Seems like a game where we should do this.  I am optimistic.  Although Umass is a good team, I think by season's end they'll be less a top 20 team and more a bubble team, which is about where I expect us to end up...so with us being at home, I expect to win.  I also think the buzz around the game is pretty strong despite the students being gone.

Athens is a ghost town. It will be a pretty good crowd for winter break...but there's just not that many people to draw from. This game on a weekend with students would approach a sellout.

Do you really think it would add 7,500 people though? Anecdotally, I've been impressed with the number of people going...including some that don't make many games. I'd be shocked if it less than 7k.

Announced 6329 sounds about right. When we had it going, and several times when coming back - was a pretty darn LOUD 6329 for how big the space is!

Color me shocked, I was definitely surprised the crowd wasn't a little bigger.

Totally agree.  I was really happy with the turnout and the energy in the stands.  Lookin' forward to conference play when the stands will be even more full.

Didn't end up making the game, but I did watch it on the stream, and the crowd was definitely into the game. Really happy that our fans get into games when they're against really good teams.

Athens is just a ghost town right now. Faculty, staff, students all gone. There's just not much to draw from. Many friends/season ticket holders I know are already gone for the Holidays.

I am happy with this showing. When the lower bowl tickets are actually used there is a clear noise bump in the Convo.

On break, the draw from Athens is certainly limited. Of course, the elephant in the room is that pesky Route 33. It is clear from talking to people and also fron the thread asking who is "in" for this game that many of the cbus diehards realize how easy the drive is now.

It'll take some time for the masses to realize how easy of a drive 33 is now. Weeknight games from CBus are very much a reality. That takes getting used to. One more homecoming weekend trip and it'll be etched in the more casual fan's minds that their favorite place in the entire world is a smooth hour and change away from their fingertips at any given moment.

It took me 1:40 to drive back from Athens, drop two people in Bexley, get back on the road and drop another at Bethel Rd, and then get to Hilliard.  I could easily get to Hilliard on the way back home in 80 minutes without going more than 5-6mph over.  Or I could do 10-12 over and get home 5-10min sooner.  Regardless, weeknight games ARE easier now.

I'm actually surprised there were that MANY people there and major props to Ohio fans!!  I figured best case scenario, maybe 3,000 people would attend the game and that we'd be lucky to get even that.  To draw over 6,000 people at a game when 99.9% of the students are gone for winter break is just fantastic to me.  We no doubt do have the best fans in the MAC and if this game were our mid-season Bracketbuster game when students are in town, the game would have been a sell-out or a very near sell-out.  Good job Athens!!

I'm not sure if it's just me, or wishful thinking, or perhaps the amount of time past game time when I leave, or what, but the trip back up 33 seems busier than I remember. By busier, I mean busier with Bobcat stickered/flagged/license plated cars. Any other C-Bus travelers think the same, or is it just wishful thinking?

Come on Ben, it's the Bobcat Baptists going home from Wednesday services.   All kidding aside, I travel from Athens to the airport on a very regular basis and I've noticed way more Bobcat vehicles lately than I ever have in my 30 years of doing this.  It's cool to be a Bobcat right now and there is nothing wrong with that.

I passed one in a Nissan SUV zooming up 315 at 10:45pm or so last night with a big Bobcat car magnet on the back.  Maybe they didn't go to the game, but I'd like to believe they did.

Just keep tellin' people how easy the trip has become, and more will decide to make the trip!

Remind me to bet the opposite of the way "experts" on this string suggest  I think only 7 posters were willing to predict.  Of those, only shabamon got the right team winning so kudos to him.

As for the attendance, let's just say most were overly "optimists"  I think bobcat2 was pretty close with the actual though!
