Per ESPN's scoreboard Southern leads Champion Baptist 57-6 at the half... Yes that's basketball not football.

It could be worse, Southern was only 12-24 from the FT line.  They are from Hot Springs AR and apparently play in the ACAA (Association of Christian College Athletics).

I was just about to post this.

Champion Baptist is 2 of 23 with 13 turnovers. Guys not named Zach Hendricks (he's from Dayton and is 2 for 2) are 0 of 21.

Champion Baptist has played three Division I teams and has given up 100+ each time and lost by 50+. Trailed 51-12 at halftime against New Orleans.

90-10 right now. You would think that you could find 5 guys off the streets to do better than that.

Now 100-10. Wow. They wouldn't be champion if a good prep league.

I did find an article that said...

Quote:expand_more
In its short seven year career, the Champion Tigers have made seven ACCA National Tournament appearances. They have won three National Championships in 2007, 2009, and 2010. Champion has produced one ACCA Player of the year, two ACCA tournament MVPs, six different All-Tournament team players, six ACCA All-Americans, and eighteen different ACCA Academic All-Americans.

Players not named Zach Hendricks combined to go 1 of 40. He was 2 of 4.

Wonder who is more upset at Champion Baptist, the head coach or the president?

A: They are one in the same.

Southern scored the first 44 points and Champion Baptist didn't score until making two free throws with 5:10 left in the first half.

I'm surprised I was able to even find that.  All I know of this year is they lost all 4 games to D1 teams they've played.

Somewhere I read that they have a total of 250 students. Like a small high school.
Re their midnight madness, the song got it right, "the world's going to know your name". Not necessarily in a good way though.

I found this article this morning.  Had some fun facts about Champion Baptist...

http://www.sbnation.com/college-basketball/2013/12/30/525...

Here is what we could find out about Champion:

- Team name: Tigers!

- Their website doesn't load and they don't have a Wikipedia page

- They do have an regularly updated Twitter:

- The person that Twitter says is the school's president, Eric Capaci, is also listed as the school's head basketball coach according to pretty much the only page that acknowledged that they have a basketball team, and his Twitter says he's a coach, so, yeah, that seems like it's a thing.

- They are a member of the Association of Christian College Athletics, which is not in the same organizational tree as the NCAA. But the level appears to be, um, kind of low. It's probably considerably below D-2 or D-3.

- The link above tells us the school's enrollment is 250. So one in every 25-ish students is on the hoops team, we'd presume.

I mean why even bother with athletics period when your teams not only get destroyed, but utterly humiliated enough to stir up the college basketball world, or when your student enrollment isn't even close to breaking a moderate sized senior year graduating class for high school...

Probably to raise money for the school. I'm sure they're getting a nice five-figure paycheck for each of these beatdowns.

I cant find the exact quote but Southern's President said something to the effect of "We are an excellent Division 1 program. Its hard to find other Division 1 programs who are willing to play us at home, so we have to schedule who we can."

And they've agreed to play again next year according to ESPN! Talk about glutton for punishment.
