Muncie, ANderson, Kokomo and similar cities all lost GM, Delco, FisherBody, Chrysler and similar plants. ALl have gone from multiple HS to single schools in the last decade. Muncie held out as long as they could because SOuth folks were functioning on emotion and not using logic and numbers. They voted to load the board and kept Southside open way past it's prime. BOth schools had over 2K students at one time and Northside had an additional 1500 when it was closed in 89. Now each has close to 900. THe town is still bleeding as the jobs moved away and many folks moved out to the county schools leaving a statistically significant underclass in the City schools.
I pushed for converting to a County wide Joint Vocational School but it will be turned into a jr high because those Southside folks did not want to lose their jr high also. I predict that will be closed in 5 years and the school will be shuttered instead of being put to a good use. We have several schools in the County that have less than 400 students. A county wide JVS like they have in Ohio would be a fantastic asset as there is no way some of those tiny schools can put kids on track to vocational training. Much needed ......no visionaries left in Muncie , Anderson or Kokomo. Fricking emotional beotches.
