Yikes...this gives some perspective on OUr frustrations about point guard play:
"Akron has now won three straight and eight of its last nine. In the seven MAC games during that stretch, Betancourt and Evans have combined for 23 points, total. Twice in those games, Betancourt and Evans did not score."
Point guards need to do a lot more than score. I haven't checked Akron's box scores, but are they turning it over? Are they getting assists? I would think their primary job is getting it to their shooters and big men where and when they need the ball. In 50 minutes vs. Akron our point guards had NO assists. Too many people on this board keep equating playing well with making shots. JC needs other things than just making shots from Stevie and Bean; handling it versus pressure, getting it inside at the right time and place to Mo, not making ridiculous drives into 3 defenders and getting it blocked, turning it over, or hitting the underside of the rim.
The times I have checked their box scores, Betancourt and Evans do very little to impact any part of the stat sheet consistently, including assists. Betancourt had one game with 8, the rest have been low across the board. Evans is averaging 1.8 assists per game, Betancourt 2.2. Quincy Diggs is at 2.9 assists/game as their leader. For comparison, Nick Kellogg is averaging 2.2 assists per game and TJ Hall 1.9 per game for us. Bean also at 1.9 and Stevie at 3/game.
