I thought about how far into the season we are today, and I realized that as good as it has been, something is missing.

I really hate not playing Marshall.

They are not very good this year, we would have had to put up with their obnoxious posters (aside from a few who come over here and chat,) and we also would have had to heard that god awful "WE ARE" chant.  This season has been great, but that's something that really would have been the icing on the cake.

I agree. They should be on our schedule every year. If you look at all the D1 schools in the general area, we should also be playing on some regular basis: WVU, Louisville, Kentucky, Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, OSU, Pittsburgh, Duquesne, Robert Morris, Wright State, Dayton, Cincinnati, Cleveland State, Youngstown State, Butler, Detroit, Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Purdue, Evansville and Indiana State. All the states that border Ohio.

I thought this might be about not playing Miami until so deep in the season.

I agree, we should play Marshall every year.

Do you have something against Xavier?

I really hated not playing Marshall this season.  IMO a priority effort should be made to schedule them each year.

Ironically, though the Herd is having a down year, one of their best games of the year was a one point loss at Akron.

Remember back when some Herd fans said that Ohio didn't have a single player who would start for Marshall?  Well, Turk was on our team then...and he got very limited minutes as a frosh for us...now he's starting for them.  Of all the put downs we had to absorb from some of their fans, this "you don't have one player who would start for us" is perhaps the most ridiculous.

If you are going to throw Indiana State and Evansville on that list you might as well include La Salle and Drexel as those schools in Philly are the same distance away. I do miss our games with Kentucky at neutral site locations. I would prefer the Cats to play a more national non-conference schedule taking on schools in the WCC, MWC, A10, MVC, CUSA for 1 for 1 series. Those aren't BCS conferences but considered among the better D1 leagues that fans recognize and will get excited about. The mix this year was about right but could have used 1 more big name on the schedule.

Speaking of Philly, how about Temple. A conference where we could play Temple and Cincinnati would be cool.

Marshall Basketball is a dumpster fire right now. Herrion is a loser. He decided to get rid of some players after the season and he even did that wrong. He sent DeAndre Kane packing and now he is on the Wooden Award watch list. I think it's kind of funny to listen to Marshall fans continually talk down to Ohio, a program they cannot beat currently in either sport.

Believe we opted to ditch Marshall on the schedule this year b/c we got the offer to play Ohio A&M; but I agree, we should play them every year...

Especially since Marshall hasn't won against an Ohio team in basketball or football since a bball game on 12/04/2010. Nice.

The only way I would be on board to play Marshall every year is if that game replaces the annual D3 game we play every year. Let that be an exhibition game, and make games like the Xavier scrimmage a regular season game. We need to schedule stronger. Looking at our non-conference schedule this year, we are capable of winning against a stronger schedule. eliminate some of the trap games like Oakland. We tend to play to the level of our competition at times, so a stronger schedule might also help alleviate that some as well.

You're right.  Why would we want a game that brings in more visiting fans to the Convo than every other team we play?Strength of schedule and RPI are meaningless in the MAC, so I'd rather see Ohio sell tickets.  Marshall is a nice regional rivalry and their fans come to Athens.

Sounds more like you're channeling Curley.
