The good news is that we don't need him to be a star.  15-20 minutes per game of solid, teamwork play--nothing necessarily sensational--and it makes us even a lot tougher.

Since this thread, Bean is shooting a solid 39% from deep.

In addition to hitting the game-winner Saturday, he also tied his highest scoring output and played 26 minutes which is his high for us.

I think there is some truth to guys needing some time to get going after they sit out a year.

Hopefully we continue to see growth from Bean over the remainder of the season. Getting good minutes from him will really help this team. His performance from BG to EMU was night and day.

Consistency is the key.

I'm not sure Bean played as well as many would believe.  He shot better.  We need him to be a point guard, not just a maker of shots.  Not complaining about his shooting, or belittling it.  I just wish he could create better and make better decisions with the ball.

Why does he stop and pick up the dribble so damn fast with no one to pass to vs pressure after the in-bounds - had me screaming all night!

1-2 dribbles, pick up the ball, and wait for the trap.  That's a good recipe for how you don't beat a press.  Looking at the stats, I am amazed he was only credited for 2 TO's, it seemed like it should have been more like 5-6 at least.

He only had two turnovers because he delivers passes so late to other players that they are immediately trapped and end up getting credited with the turnovers.   Bean reminds me of a friend of mine who can be driving on an empty four lane highway and he comes upon a car that is going slower than he is in the same lane.  Instead of reviewing his options a half a mile away he always ends up having to put on his breaks as he closes in on him before looking which way he should go to get around him.   Bean just doesn't seem to have any court vision.

After good showings at NIU and EMU around poor showings at home against BG and CMU, I'm wondering if Bean is pressing too much in front of the home crowd and feels more comfortable away from the Convo. Could be a confidence/mental thing.

Bean had a plus/minus of -16 last night.  Ouch.

Interesting theory, and there may be something to it, but both Bean and Stevie seem affected by the musical point guard situation no matter where they play. They are both one dumb play away from the bench at any time, so they're always looking over their shoulders. I don't think that alone explains the sub-par play we've seen many times this year, but it seems to exacerbate it.

In his first start, Bean goes for 9 points on 40% shooting from 3 with a 5-2 assist to turnover ratio.

Bean has skills.  He just needs to stay within the offense and play team ball.  We don't have any lightning quick scorers (includes the Bean).  When we are patient and work the ball deep into possessions (lots of passing w/out ball touching floor) we are good and at our best.  Beans needs to get, and stick with, this notion.

And, the way we are built, turnovers really hurt us.  Another reason to be patient and play your team ball.

Plus 4 rebs.  I thought he did an admirable job filling in for Stevie on such short notice.

Sorry for the selfie, but I think the above is pretty accurate and that Bean fit it...fit in and played very well, today.  He's taken some heat earlier so he now deserves praise.
