Gritty. We had nothing tonight coming off the Akron win on short rest. We found a way and that's all that counts. If Ohio finishes third, Boals should get conference coach of the year. He is basically doing it with only six players contributing. Now just stop getting T's with 3 minutes left in the game.

Miles Brown kept us in this game. Tremendous game for him. Thanks senior.

Every big bucket we needed until the final 4 minutes seemed to come from Aidan Hadaway (who'd have thunk THAT at the start of the year).

Jaylin Hunter? Maturity and cajones to play that bad all game and still have the confidence to stroke the big 3 that gave us the 60-57 lead. Biggest shot of the game. Good job senior.

Then Clayton's 3 clinched it for all intents and purposes.

Gritty, albeit ugly, win.

Let's never play them again - thanks. Which makes the final Miami game much more important. Last thing we want is Miami to clinch #5 and push BG to #6. Would be a devastating first round matchup for us in the 3/6 IMO.

Bad timing on the T, but the combination of Wiznitzer's play and the refs had to be eating him alive.

For those of you who are in earshot at the games, can you fill us in as to what Boals is saying to warrant these persistent technicals ?

I’d be pressing like the game depends on it… cause it does..

Also, Western Michigan is #12 in Hockey? Is that like NCAA Top 25?

Good interview with Reef after the game. Russ mentioned the extra year and Reef just said he's enjoyed the year in Athens. No decision until after season. Have to believe Nebraska comes calling.

Special shout out to that one random guy in the crowd who says literally nothing the entire game until the refs blow a call and he defends them in a feeble attempt to convince us all he knows more than Jeff Boals.

For a team that doesn't hang its hat on defense.

We've given up less than 60 pts in 3 of our last 4.

Kent 63-57
NIU 80-59
BG 66-59

Even the Akron win we only gave up 67.

We've improved in this area leaps and bounds throughout the season.

BG's defense was tough tonight and we proved we could win ugly against a solid MAC squad.

Miles, Clayton, Reef, and Hadaway were fantastic. Jaylin hung in there despite a tough night.

Feel great heading into March. Need to get Sheldon and James going. Everyone needs to contribute come MAC tourney.

No doubt. Boals is awful. We should probably fire him.
I neither inferred that or want that. Do you think he made great decisions tonight? He’s allowed to make mistakes, we all do. Do you think he did a great job coaching tonight? I simply gave my opinion about a piss poor job by our head guy tonight. We overcame a lot tonight to pull out a win. This should give OUr guys confidence that they can win without their best and I hope they realize they will need better play than what happened tonight when they are in Cleveland. I think Boals has done a fine job this year considering where this team was in early January.

Boals played Wiz a lot tonight, I even understand why, but wow, what a liability he was tonight. And getting the technical was not a smart move in my opinion. I understand getting a technical to fire up the team, but his timing was really bad. I’m assuming he didn’t think they would tee him up, but that group of officials was something special. How many really late whistles were there? At least three that I recall. Other times guys got mauled and no call. Life in the MAC, right.

I'm not sure it's possible to play a more horrific 14 minutes of basketball than the Wiz did tonight. It honestly looked like a reality TV show where they take a guy from an Amish community and then throw him into a D1 basketball game. Laughs and agony ensue.

The 4 turnovers and 3 dumb fouls show up in the box score...but there was sooo much more. Botched rebound attempts, slow defense, and so on. Coach - I beg you to at least consider the idea that Clayton/Wiz isn't a constant never budge 1 for 1 arrangement. We are signed up for this exact arrangement next year. At a minimum we have to understand there is no option to toss him the ball in transition. Its just not an option. Rebound, defend, screen (hopefully legally). That's it.

I digress. Jaylin didn't have it tonight and there was plenty of frustration to go around. Hadaway several great plays again
Miles was the key to victory. Great defense and big shots. Vintage Miles. Such a great guy and his loyalty to Athens and the program is much appreciated in this day and age.

Towns had a terrible game and was clearly extremely frustrated. The one bucket he managed to get was negated by his technical for taunting after a run of the mill 1st half bucket. You hate to see it....

The Towns technical...what did the guy say? I mean, he was on his back after sinking a shot. Total headcase and I'm 100% glad he's BG's problem and not ours.

Just home in Cincinnati after the game. Have lots to say about tonight.
First, we won, and I always love to see the bobcats win a basketball game.
Second, it was one of the ugliest games I have ever seen. But, it was exciting.
Third, those refs were horrendous.
Fourth Hadaway has improved more than I ever dreamed he could at the beginning of the year.
Fifth, I still think Ike needs more playing time.
Sixth, Sheldon seems off a little bit.
Seventh, What can I say about Wiz? The same thing I said after last year. They need to throw the guy a thousand passes a day this summer. His hands are just poor. He also needs to jump rope 1,000times a day and work on his agility. His feet are also poor. If he did that last summer, and this is the result…

I will admit I'm a positive, easy going guy but... Watching the Wiz out there was Effing BRUTAL. And I'm not blaming Wiz either. I know he is working hard and trying his best. I put this on Coach Boals. There has to be a way to either have him only set picks or just stay down low and get rebounds, right? If you can build your offense around that "special" player, couldn't you also design an offense "around" the Wiz? Here's the thing, I bet Wiz would be more than happy to do it. He seems like a guy who is more than willing to give it his all for the team.
We've got to be able to substitute AJ Clayton when he gets into foul trouble, and of more pressing need, a breather for AJ during the coming MAC tourney. I don't know. Maybe it's too late.
We are on the razor's edge of being better than Toledo but, we have to get Wiz to be a neutral factor out there. Here's hoping...

Go Bobcats!

CBS and the MAC couldn't have picked a worse date for flexing this game to Friday. Tonight is also when a lot of Sectional finals in high school will be played all over the state. Good luck getting semi-local or out-of-towner fans in for this one.
Yeah, and lots of District Semi’s played on Saturday. Your point?

I’ve long thought he might leave after one year. Got to play with Jaylin and rebuild his stock. Time will tell.

It's maddening. I'm sorry, but Boals has to limit his minutes in Cleveland. If Hadaway or Clayton get two first half fouls, you just have to risk it. It's damn March.
I think this is something worth considering. I’d almost rather go small and give those minutes back to EJ4 (still can’t tell if he’s 100%) given his ability to crash boards.

Seeing so many comments about The Whiz. So many people seeing the light of what I’ve been saying for two years. It was truly an incredible display of zero basketball IQ and skill last night. I just have no words. For those saying he’s improved, I hate to tell you, but he’s regressed as we head into March. Boals has to hope Clayton and Captain Chaos avoid foul trouble and limit The Whiz to no more than four minutes per MAC Tourney game.

I pray that Clayton doesn’t transfer, we get a portal big and Evans is serviceable his freshman year. I’m sorry, but The Whiz needs to take his talents next season to USC-Aiken or Defiance. He should not be playing in the Convo next season. We know The Whiz is a great guy and a great teammate and comes from a wonderful family. But he’s now played four years of division-one college basketball and he can’t set a screen without moving his feet and he can’t catch the ball. I’m sorry, but it’s time to move on.

Agree 100%. He is COMPLETELY lost on the defensive end. Watch him away from the ball. It is maddening. He shouldn't see another minute of action foul trouble be damned. He is a total liability when he's on the floor.
