Heard from a reliable source that the Akron broadcast will be Russ's 500th. He definitely deserves some kudos from all of you who have enjoyed his work and his approach. It's been over a decade and a half.

He's been a fantastic PBP and producer for us, I'm incredibly grateful for what he's done, and I'm sorry he hasn't been able to move up.

Congrats to Russ. I assume this means 500th basketball broadcast. Wonder what it would be if you added football and baseball.

500 is a great accomplishment. I'm sure when he took the job he was thinking it wouldn't be more than 100 hoops games and off to the better gig. 17 years is a long time to wait for the call and move up.

“247 home runs in the minor-leagues would be a kind of dubious honor.”

Totally congratulating Russ.

Warren Swain was here when Tommy started. I listened to him from Samford, Hawaii and Central Mich. Ugh. Back then we had to find the broadcast if we were not there. Indiana was a reach and we were able to stream those games.

Russ came in the next year with a Bang! Interviews with the coaches and the shows as well as pre and post games were pretty good. He eschewed FB and the new "Twitter" back then but has masterfully used them in the more recent past.

Always love listening to him paint the picture and get a good feel for the game. As I grew up from a young age running the AM dial while my Pops came home from scouting we tried to catch games throughout each night. When we were not listening to local HS games we had Miami, Dayton, Cincy, UK and others colleges as well as the Cincinnati Royals on the dial. I carried that through college in Chicago area and listened to hundreds of games for years.

Russ is as good as it gets...especially at our level. Morrie Mannies, Cawood Ledford, Hilliard Gates were all giants but Russ is rapidly honing his skills and joining that elite level of broadcaster who can give you the pic. Though I still listen to radio and stream games where ever I go I can truly say we are fortunate to have him and I appreciate the level of broadcast he has brought us.

Happy 500th Russ. Have a good call.
