Ohio's is 4-14 in its last 18 true road games (not counting neutral site games).

*reality enters the room*

Career record in road/neutral court games.

1. Jim Christian, 21-14, .600
2. Danny Nee, 48-53, .475
3. John Groce, 34-41, .453
4. Jeff Boals, 31-42, .425
5. Larry Hunter, 82-117, .412
6. Tim O'Shea, 47-76, .382
7. Saul Phillips, 25-54, .316
8. Billy Hahn, 14-34, .292
9. Dale Bandy, 24-59, .289

And before this recent bad stretch, Boals was 3rd.

We are bad this year. This team has holes. Nobody is happy. But this sky is falling nonsense is just that.

I'd like to see this for MAC games only for a fair comparison. As it is, the results are dependent on who you choose to play on the road. Are you playing top 75 teams or a bunch of chumps. If it's the former and while I'd love to win those, losing to those teams as opposed to who we're losing to this year is an apples to oranges comparison.

Wow, I knew O'Shea was BAD, but really? And how long did Boeh keep the guy around? 23 games under .500 It really was "life on the road".

Bosh’s reasoning for firing Hunter was he wanted the program to go to the next level. O’Shea took it to the next level down.

How so? 7 years, one ncaa, 18-20 wins usually. It was a Larry-like tenure.

The Bobcats have yet to win a true road game this season in only four tries. The least amount of true road games for any league school. Guessing Boals will stay slightly in front of Saul in the standings above because Ohio should beat NI, Buffalo and Miami on the road.

The difference is, Coach O'Shea said that literally every night as an excuse for the teams failures. He seemed fine with it. Coach Boals does not use that as an excuse and never will accept that failure.

For a school with supposedly the largest budget in the league, the nicest arena in the league (opinion, I know), one of the strongest alumni bases in the league, and supposedly a highly rated Sports Administration program, Ohio sure does a great job of being mediocre when it comes to how they run basketball - which SHOULD be their flagship program.

And I'm not talking about old 1980's hand dryers here. I'm talking about everything from gameday ops to the fact that the NCAA Tournament run was never capitalized on - there's absolutely no buzz at all anywhere on gameday. It's more pathetic than the road results.

100% correct.

And I’ll add a NATIONAL COMMERCIAL featuring JP that was ignored/wasted.

Why can't this program seem to gain and hold traction like we've seen at Toledo, Kent, Akron, UB (until the last two years) in the last decade or so? With the biggest budget? The opportunity lost over the last 10-20 years to capitalize on big successes is so frustrating to observe.

Maybe brick streets, postcard quality photos don’t appeal to today’s kids like they used too.

My apologies, but I never know if BTC is being sarcastic or not. However, the reasons all of us on BA love Athens and Ohio University may not be what football and basketball recruits in 2024 are looking for.

Well, BS2, I can assure you, that was more statement than sarcasm. With real cost of tuition reimbursement, NIL and the portal, it is NOT about the streets or facilities like it once was. Any of you ever wonder why NFL facilities pale in comparison to what OSU Football (both), Michigan, Bama, Georgia, etc in terms of locker rooms, lounges, meal tables and etc? Or how NCAA basketball facilities dwarf what most NBA teams have? Because now it’s turning into money. NFL, MLB, NBA, they don’t recruit with facilities, they recruit with zero’s!!!!

Cash is King! Funny thing is, I remember well when people on here wanted kids to be able to have freedom to move like coaches. Or when they said kids should get paid. We we got both, and I’ll say it like I used to say it, be careful what you wish for.

I'm in agreement with you, BTC. But you can understand why someone might not know when you're being sarcastic or not, no?

Your reasons have to do with realities in the portal/NIL era. While I agree with you, my reasons pre-date the portal and NIL. There are potential students and athletes/students who are not interested in Athens and Ohio University. They don't appreciate the campus, social life, academics, etc. . . the way that most, if not all, BA posters do. They might want more of an urban campus, for one example. Unfortunate, but also reality.

Money aside from both academics (scholarships) and athletics (NIL) - you want to know what resonates with college aged kids that sells OU?

Court Street.

Co-eds. Bars. Parties.

Sure some love the ambiance. Sure some want the academics. MOST want upscale places to live (nice furnished apartments), access to activities (movies, shopping etc) and the social aspect of partying, drinking and meeting/hanging with friends.

Sadly that's a reputation most of OU academia spends time and money trying to downplay instead of embracing.

I think they tried to strike a middle ground with the "Bobcats are happy to be Bobcats" ad. It just came off corny.
