I was thinking this morning about how spoiled we've gotten having point guards like DJ and Jason through the year who had great vision, could see basically the whole court and anticipate where people would be. Our assist/FG ratio seems to have gone way down since those days. This season it's running about 40%, 164 assists on 342 FGs. During Jason's last season (the covid 2020-21 season) we had 412 assists on 686 FGs, about 60%. That team won the MAC tourney and beat UVA in the first round of the NCAA tourney.

This is either going to be an upset special for our Cats or we're going to get run out of the gym. And if the past holds up, even though he hasn't played in every game, Ben Wight will have a double-double on us.

I will closely be watching any and all interactions between Wight and Boals tonight. You have to figure Wight is as amped up for this game as any other game in his life.

Wight played in UT's first 7 games, mostly as a starter. Wasn't much of a scorer or rebounder, averaging 2.7 in both categories. He hasn't played in the team's last 5 games.

That's my point :)

He will explode for 10 and 10 tonight :)

Towns hurt us in his first game back last year too!

No more JT Shumate so I like our chances more than previous years.

Open as 3.5 point favorites, moved to 2.5. High scoring game expected with an O/U of 160.

Reminder Toledo is the 16-2 defending regular season champs who ended our season last year. Our favorite status probably comes as a surprise to many.

Protecting home court tonight and Saturday would be massive before facing the 3 crappy Michigan teams.

Haven't seen the Bobcats this year since Ive been too cheap to pay ESPN plus. This will be fun to watch and hope the "bricks" don't attend the game.

Listening.

What, are the Rockets triple teaming Clayton that I have heard him take one shot and receive no passes?

Big three by Sheldon. If he’s gonna play, he’s a number two not a point guard. Then there is his defensive deficiencies. They are so much more athletic than we are.

Toledo has 15 made field goals at half and 0 assists.

And they are up 6.

That sums up the state of Ohio hoops right now. It’s a difficult product to watch.

And they haven't made a 3. Toledo doesn't take a lot of threes, but they make the ones they take at a good clip. Hopefully they don't start falling in the second half.

Way to fight back, but man our possessions are still poor. Toledo plays smaller than us, should be a game for AJC and Hadaway to feast. I know Jaylin was our guy coming into the year and it’s gotta be tough on him, but this offense should really run through AJC and EJ4, followed by Shereef imo at this point.

Zebras nerfed what little paint defense we had. Every time we successfully guard someone down low, it's a foul.

Gonna predict the refs' calls are going to start going Ohio's way in the 2nd half. It can't get any worse, can it?

AJC and Hadaway aren’t athletic enough against these guys. They are both struggling defending these guys.
Maybe you zone these guys?

We foul a lot this year. We're on the bottom ~15% of college basketball in a bunch of foul related stats. Something like 24% of our opponents points come from the line, we commit ~20 fouls a game.

We actually defend shots from the floor well, particularly threes. But we give away a lot of points at the free throw line. Likely because we are undersized.

When a team can beat you left and right off the dribble it’s time to switch to a zone.
It is stupid to continue playing man on man when these guys just beat us like a drum.
