Figured it makes sense to have a dedicated thread for the tournament. 3 games to go until OUr boys take the court tonight.

To no one's surprise, Miami-UMass is tight at the half. UMass looks up for it. Attacking the rim and the offensive glass all day.

UMass ahead with 2:26 left. Probably won't last, but hope it does.

Not a choke. Credit to UMass. MAC offices can't be happy what this result does to ticket sales for Friday and Saturday.

Sure feels like Miami is Dayton bound for the first four. They had to at least win one MAC Tourney game to completely shut up the haters.

Yep, they played a very inspired game right through to the end. Fiami looked a little too confident.

UMass lost 12 games by 7 points of less. Much better team than their record indicated.

They are praying UMass loses tomorrow.

The 2025-26 Miami Redhwaks were total frauds and I will never believe anything different. They were your normal run of the mill top 3 MAC basketball team, nothing special and nothing historic. Their inclusion in the list of undefeated regular season NCAA bball teams will be a brown stain to that list for eternity. Their excitement and newfound fan base will disappear just as fast as it showed up. Their new arena will be as empty as Millett has been for decades. Muck Fiami.

Yes UMASS deserved the W. But Fiami up 9 with 7:30 to play. Horrible bad pass turnover down 2 with 20 seconds left. Unbeaten and lose to the 8 seed in your first game of the tourney, I call that a choke. Outrebounded by 17, difference in the game. Fiami fans faces afterwards priceless.

Which and how many Redhawk players enter the portal and join their coach at UC next season?

They are the opposite of Miami, who squeaked by with 2-3 point wins all season. 16-15 over 31-0 looks like a major upset, but flip those close results and these teams look pretty even.

Absolutely right. Umass was unlucky and dangerous, dropping so many heartbreakers all season. Absolute opposite of Miami. In hindsight this should've been a great betting opportunity.

I guess the powerhouse Redhawks will have to wait another couple decades for a Mac championship. Whoops.

I've thought all year that UMass, even more so than Ohio, was a team where the opposite of "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" is true. Bettiol is the best true post player and offensive rebounder in the MAC, Banks one of the best shooting guards and Carbuccia one of the best pure point guards. Not to mention a coach that has Final Four experience. And, as mentioned above, a season with a lot of close losses that could have gone either way.

Is this the first 8 seed over the 1 seed in MAC history? Either way, UMass now owns the best all-time MAC tournament winning percentage.

Kent State did it I believe 2 years ago. They made it all the way to the final where they had the infamous fouling Akron while up 1 with 5 seconds to go in the game to give Akron the title. That Kent team was similar to UMass in that they had a ton of talent and underperformed during the regular season.

Kent beat Toledo 2 years ago in 2024.

I know of a 9 seed over a 1, when Ohio beat down Kent 81-64 in 2010.

In 2001, 8 seed Miami beat 1 seed Central Michigan. And in 2000, 9 seed Miami beat 1 seed Bowling Green.

Couldn't happen to a better group of guys over at Miami.

Probably not the best scenario for the MAC, or for Ohio. But whatever. Miami's a school full of psychopaths, and this is good.

But ultimately, having another chance to beat Miami would have been motivating for the team. Oddly, I think we're probably less likely to win the tournament now, even if we already had very low odds.

I hope someone gave a smug wave goodbye to Peter Suder when Miami left the court after the game.
