I would love to rip Tod K over this, but we can't rip Tod K for anything.

While watching Ohio handle an overmatched WMU on TV, I saw the ending of some nail biters in several other MAC games on the laptop.

Miami, taking everybody's best shot, slipped by UB by 2 as Sabol missed a game-winning 3 at the buzzer.

Akron got a 3 from Hardman with 10 sec. left to win by 2 at EMU.

And Kent, down by as much as 17 in the 2nd half at UT, won by 3.

Miami, now 23-0, visits Marshall Saturday in the MAC-Sun Belt challenge. Marshall is the last team I'd like to see put an end to the Redhawks' winning streak.
As much as it pains me to say it, I really don't want Miami to lose before the Ohio game next week. Would at least love to get a chance to beat a nationally-ranked team. However big of a long-shot that will be.

I feel the Miami at Marshall game on Saturday is a tricky one for the Redhawks.
You've pointed out often how lousy Boals record is vs Akron, Kent and Toledo. You should then be a betting man and take the points vs RedChickens because the same cannot be said vs Muckfiami.

This seems to be the issue ...

From the Kent board -

"I was there. End of the game chirping was a big nothing. Sumlin appeared to actually know one of the UT students and was responding to him all night (when the rest of the team was in the locker room for half time ect). Townsend might have been actually chirping but besides that it looked more like a few of our players flexing in that direction with a “what now” face. The whole interaction lasted maybe 7 seconds. It doesn’t help that the visitor bench is shoehorned into their student section. Not ideal, but nothing to blow out of proportion. None of our guys are “thugs” for this and none of their students were outrageously over the line."

TK sounds kind of elitist to me. Perhaps Todd has never had a team come back from a 17-point deficit in the final 9 minutes to win on the road.

I think he and his team would - justifiably - celebrate at the end of the road game if they did the same. Can't get butt-hurt over this, IMO. Road wins are tough to come by in the MAC.

I gotta believe the Kent fan here. There is very often some taunting of fans after a highly charged win at the buzzer on the road. I am sure some guys were hearing it all game, and took 10 seconds to give it back and gloat. Is it ideal probably not, but nothing to be shocked and appalled by.

Agree ...

Too much going on during the course of the game/comeback for players to respond to students/hecklers. But after the final whistle, not surprised some players might want to give some back.

Don't condone it. But I do understand it.

Most MAC schools sell tickets to visiting fans/family to sit behind visiting team bench. That cuts down at lot of this kind of stuff. Wonder if Toledo does this.

As expected this game is a sellout. There’s also some sort of Greek night event attached to the game that awards $1K to the fraternity or sorority with the most spirit. Their coach is saying he still struggles (paraphrasing) with the memory of playing against Wally when he was the Marshall point guard. Also, and I’ve never heard of this before, and probably with good reason, he’s even talking about buying beer for the student fans who are of age. It will be a zoo in Huntington tonight.

If I were a betting guy, and I’m not, I’d have to take Marshall in this game even without the 2.5 points. The only thing that’s exceeded Miami’s excellent play this season, in my opinion, has been their ability to pull victory from the jaws of defeat several times. A good trait but some might even go so far as to call it luck.

Unfortunately, from an overall MAC perspective at this point in the season, I think defeat is ripe to occur for them and Marshal appears to be setting the stage to increase the probability that it happens tonight.

Hope they don’t lose today. Will take the shine off the Ohio game next Friday and completely upend Miami’s national publicity for them and the conference moving forward rest of season.

Just FYI

According to Kenpom .... Kent State (No. 2) and Miami (No.6) are among the luckiest teams in the NCAA this season. Liberty is No. 1. Next highest MAC team is OHIO at No. 36.

Bowling Green (No. 359 of 365) has had the worst luck of teams in the MAC.

So much for Marshall road game being tricky. Up 20 at half. Steele is getting a big new job in April.

To paraphrase Allen Iverson, "Practice free throws? Is that what you're talking about? Practice free throws?"

UMass loses in 3OT at Coastal Carolina while making 11 of 23 (48%) from the line. Kent St., meanwhile, loses by 1 point at Southern Miss. while making 8 of 18 (44%) at the line.

Then there was the disparity at the line in EMU's 65-60 loss at App St. The Eagles were better at the line (67% to 54%) but had only 6 attempts to App. St.'s 28 foul shots.

Keeping to the foul shooting theme:

UMass losing at CC falls squarely on coach Martin's shoulder. UMass led by 3 in the first OT with under 10 seconds. Instead of fouling, Martin decides to play defense with the CC player hitting a prayer at the buzzer to send it into a second OT.

Finally, a Marshall big man went to the line early in its game with Miami for two free throws. He made both attempts but both were called off because he was called for a lane violation. I don't think I've seen consecutive lane violations on the foul shooter since coaching 7th-grade girls basketball nearly 30 years ago. Question for the official scorers on BA - are you credited for a missed attempt if there is a lane violation? What if the violation is on a teammate?
