Kent gives up over 100 in each of their first two games, losing the first to Troy and beating Cornell 110-102. That is some potent offense the Flashes have faced or some mighty bad defense.

vs Cornell, Kent guard, Morgan Safford knocked in 34 points while two Cornell guards went off for 34 and another with 29.

Zips fans gleeful on Sunday that they played a top ranked Purdue while getting seriously homered and covered the spot and only lost by 18 and while committing fewer turnovers than the Boilermakers.

As they should be...played very well. Groce deserves an opportunity to get another chance at a big school.

Best team at UB AO (After Oats). Nice portal pickups in Frietag (Wisconsin) and Brizzi (Villanova, Davidson, et al). Nice win tonight v. good Vermont team to go to 5-0.

I gotta look up the NET calculation again because we, at 1-3, are 179 and Buffalo at 5-0 with a win at Depaul is 341.

I'm guessing the NET ratings are from end of 2024-25 season and won't be updated for the first time this season until sometime in December.

Here is the latest (11/19) Kenpom

https://kenpom.com /

UB is amazingly No. 237 while nearly every team within 50 points of them have 2 or more losses.

Here is the latest RPI (Before Vermont game) ... UB No. 51

Still early for everybody

Rough 48 hours for UMass in the Virgin Islands. First they lose to a mediocre Charleston team, then they drop one this afternoon to Doug Gottlieb’s previously 1-5 (0-5 vs D1) Green Bay squad.

I was expecting UMass to be better than what we've seen so far. And maybe they will be eventually. But the Minutemen will need to learn how to play D without fouling, a problem that rears its head from time to time over the last few years for OUr Bobcats.

Down in the Virgin Islands, UMass suffered a pair of 4-point losses due in part to Charleston making 24 of 29 foul shots on 27 UMass fouls and Green Bay hitting 28 of 35 foul shots on 25 UMass fouls.

Akron is looking like. . . well, like Akron of recent years.

Deep and athletic, with freshman Eric Mahaffey looking like an Ali Ali Ali clone. The Zips are up big late v. Evansville in the semifinal of the Paradise Jam. They will move to 5-1 (only loss at #1 Purdue) if they hold on and will face Yale tomorrow night in the championship game. Yale is coached by Alan Swank's buddy, James Jones. Was Jones an assistant at Ohio under Groce?

Watched second half. So many guys can hit the three. Loaded team with a great coach is a recipe for success.

Somehow, Buffalo got 1 vote in the AP Top 25 this week: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings

I know they are 6-0, but c’mon, that’s a real stretch.

Wins against Vermont and a P5 school (even if just meh) in DePaul is grabbing attention — that’s my guess.

I was thinking the same thing watching the end of their game last night against Yale. They lost narrowly, but Akron looks dang good.

It was a hell of game to watch. Two outstanding well-coached basketball teams. It's amazing how far our program is behind Akron. Yes...they have a guy cutting checks..but the gap shouldn't be this large between Ohio and Akron.

Does anyone on here factually know how much each MAC Schools has for NIL/Cheating and/or has paid out? I am looking for men's basketball specifically. I have no doubt we cannot even keep up with other MAC Schools.

Javan Simmons' agent is quoted as saying:

[QUOTE]
“To give you an idea on the range within the MAC, if you're looking at the [NIL] collective side of it — where things were up until this year — you're probably looking at $20,000 to $100,000 [per year] for a decent player,” said Rick Clair, an agent who represents several current and former Toledo and BG players, including Javan Simmons, who just transferred from UT to Ohio.

“Now that we’re moving into the rev-share model,” he continued, “we're getting numbers in of [more than] $150,000 for your tier one starters.”
Also reports on rumors that UMass and Akron have payrolls of about ~$1m.

Thanks, BLSS! I'll read the article. As I type this, I am combing Gemini and ChatGPT for answers. What I am seeing is stunning detail and depressing for OHIO and the MAC, which I expected and evangelized about years ago. Going to suck to eventually go backwards to the old 1-AA designation (if not worse).

Former Bobcat Sam Towns had 12 pt and 18 reb for BG today. I believe he was recruited to Ohio by Larry Hunter. Or was it Billy Hahn? I heard his goal is to remain in college longer than his cousin Seth Towns, whose career started at Harvard in the 2016-17 season and ended in 2023-24 at Howard with a stop in between at osu. Reason #184 why college sports is not what it used to be.

Not sure this puts any balm on the season to date ...

But look at the top MAC teams on Kenpom and all but Akron have SOS of 300-plus. That includes undefeated Buffalo, Kenpom 222, while the Bobcats, Kenpom 224, have a SOS at No. 46!!!

Just sayin ...
