Toledo (W): 12-15 (.800)
At WMU (L): 7-11 (.636)
Miami (W): 13-18 (.722)
At Toledo (L): 11-13 (.846)
At Buffalo (W): 10-15 (.667)
WMU (L): 6-9 (.667)
At Akron (W): 4-6 (.667)
Buffalo: 10-14 (.714)

We haven't gotten 20 FT attempts since Central.

Buffalo has gotten to the line 20 times on four occasions this month (mostly getting 17 or 18 if not reaching the 20s or 30s)
WMU has done it 5 times.
Toledo has done it 4  times.

Ricardo Johnson ranks 4th in FTA.

Come Cleveland time, it's going to be very terrifying if we can't get guys getting to the stripe while WMU/Buffalo/Toledo are getting there 25 times.

MAC refs are very uneven in calling continuation fouls and it seems like we get A LOT fewer in the act fouls in our favor. In the first half last night a Buffalo player was fouled out by the free throw line and they gave him an and-1 after he made a layup.  On the other end, one of our guys was fouled along the baseline heading for the rim and we got to take it out.  I'm not saying there's some kind of conspiracy, but we never seem to get the breaks on those calls.

Very little attacking of the rim, very few looks to Tony/Mo in the post, and settling for jumpers most of the night usually doesn't get you to the stripe.  Setty was one of the only guys aggressively trying to get to the tin.

This is something I've been frustrated with from a few players this year.  It's as if they're not being schooled at getting in the lane, getting the defender off the floor or out of position, and drawing contact.  (I'm sure that's not the case, but it seems that way sometimes with some players)

With Ric out we just don't have many players looking to drive.  TJ does but you can tell his knees are really bothering him so he doesn't have that quick first step right now.  Nick does on occasion but for some reason he can't buy a foul call.  That and one of our players just doesn't anticipate anything and regularly gets beat off the dribble.

I think this is a product of Ohio being undersized vs virtually every opponent this year.  Our guards are almost always smaller, and we don't have a regular big post player getting a ton of minutes.  Our team shoots more jumpers.  We have attempted almost 100 more 3's than our opponents, but 135 less FT's this season.  With Ricardo out, these numbers didn't surprise me at all.  We will live and die with the jump shot the rest of the season, which is tough to do in March.

Curls, turns, quick pass to roller, pump fakes - we don't do any of 'em! We "bounce, bounce, bounce, perimeter pass...........

Might have something to do with PG abilities.............

Those are good specifics about things that we ought to do more of.

But as others have said/implied, we really don't have any guys with the straight-on ability to get to the rim on their own.  Guys who do that create fouls.

That said, we've generally executed our perimeter game quite well--without a lot of dribbling.  But, of course, that's not a game that's likely to much get us to the line.

We are not a quick team.  Our point guards have to hit pull-ups/floaters because they are short.  Those are rare skills in basketball these days.  Stevie can do it when healthy.  Not so sure on Willis.  Ndour gets the opponents best big defender and double teams every game.  We are incredibly guardable if the opponent has any speed at all.

I'm not sure I completely agree with the premise that is because of our roster.  Some guys, I'd agree with.  TJ, Nick, Mo, Taylor -- these guys can get to the rim.  I think they could do better at drawing contact with fakes, etc. to get a few more free throws.

Another Question is:  do we have any of those "get to the rim" guys on next year's team?

I think this is one area where we really miss Rico. He was good at getting to the rim and drawing fouls.

Next year, I think Rodell Wigginton will be that guy. He is your prototypical slasher who has a good ability to finish around the rim. I look for him to get a fair share of the wing minutes opening up, probably at the 3.

I appreciate the conversation here and agree it would be nice but as has been we don't have any pg or wing guys that can really slash to the lane and get a shot off at the rim.  Stevie, and Bean have been blocked a ton in the lane trying to get a shot off and nic and wilk have had the same issues.  Undersized is an understatement in their regard.  This is also a thing lacking in ndour and john's game.  Neither has shown the ability to put the ball on the floor and beat someone off the dribble.  It's just a skill that just about only tj and ric along with setty (now) have consistently shown.

Well, this whole group is 6'4 to 6'7:  Morillo-Laraja, Krute, Wigginton, Harley, Wingfield.

Let's hope they are quick enough to cause some problems and can finish around the rim.

Anyone know if Wingfield is going to have an impact?  When Rico went down I thought he might end up seeing the court.

From what I have found, Crute and Morillo-Laraja are going to provide us accurate 3-point shooters from Day 1 while Wigginton is more of a slasher who won't take as many 3's.
I've heard a lot of good things about Wingfield. I think he will absolutely see very good time next year. I have heard some good things about Harley, but he remains somewhat of mystery man. I am curious what position both Wingfield and Harley end up playing.

While it will take a little time for our new wings to gain experience, there is definitely a lot of talent in this group. I am excited to see it play out.

Hopefully this new group will have plenty of interchangeable parts with guys being able to play multiple positions and causing matchup nightmares for the rest of the MAC.

Well, the Cats actually got to the line consistently against Kent St - 33 attempts.

18-for-33 (54.5%).
