In the past 25 years, we have never had a better MAC road record than home record until this year.  Before last season, we never even had matching home/away records.  Before last season, we didn't reach 7 MAC road wins in any season, and if we win Saturday we will have 2 years in a row.  Here is the splits by year:

2014 - Home 4-5, Away 6-2
2013 - Home 7-1, Away 7-1
2012 - Home 8-0, Away 3-5
2011 - Home 5-3, Away 4-4
2010 - Home 5-3, Away 2-6
2009 - Home 6-2, Away 1-7
2008 - Home 7-1, Away 2-6
2007 - Home 6-2, Away 3-5
2006 - Home 7-2, Away 3-6
2005 - Home 8-1, Away 3-6
2004 - Home 7-2, Away 0-9
2003 - Home 5-4, Away 3-6
2002 - Home 6-3, Away 5-4
2001 - Home 8-1, Away 4-5
2000 - Home 7-2, Away 4-5
1999 - Home 8-1, Away 4-5
1998 - Home 3-6, Away 0-9
1997 - Home 8-1, Away 4-5
1996 - Home 8-1, Away 3-6
1995 - Home 8-1, Away 5-4
1994 - Home 8-1, Away 6-3
1993 - Home 7-2, Away 4-5
1992 - Home 7-1, Away 3-5
1991 - Home 6-2, Away 3-5
1990 - Home 3-5, Away 2-6

Total - Home 162-53, Away 84-130

Ignoring every thing else (namely the bad home losses this year), let's marvel at what JC has done on the road in his first 2 years:

Jim Christian - Home .647, Away .813
John Groce - Home .750, Away .312
Tim Oshea - Home .754, Away .311
Larry Hunter - Home .771, Away .400

So do we trash JC for his home record or praise him for his road record?  Or both, depending on each game?

Ohio has lost at home and won on the road v. MAC East opponents KSU, Akron, BG, Buffalo. Trend will not continue Sat. V. Miami.k

Very true - A win at Miami would mean we swept the East on the road.  That is incredibly impressive.  But going 1-4 at home against the East is not so impressive.

For me, an 11-7 season would be appeasing for the most part and be close to my expectations going in.  But the nature in which we got there just leaves me thinking about what could've been.  Flipping just the Kent & BG losses alone would put us still in the running for the regular season championship.

It gives me some confidence for Cleveland though.  We've beaten every team in the MAC except WMU, many of which were on the road.  It shows we have it in us.  Just gotta get past that Monday home game though!

I agree the great road record should bode well for the MAC tourney depending on player availability.  And you would think of either record to fix it would be much easier to fix the Home record next year and just try to keep pace on the Road record.  If that happens you are looking at 1 home loss and only 2 road losses, that would be awesome.

Personally, I'm more impressed with JC's road record and could care less about his home record. Eventually, the home record will take care of itself once the team gets better as the season goes along. I think this year was just an outlier as far as having a losing record. But you don't get to play MAC Tournament games at home or NCAA Tournament games at home. Having a team ready to play in an opposing gym is pretty impressive to me.

I know the mantra is to protect your home floor, but JC has taught these kids how to handle adversity. We've seen it with the comebacks and the road record. Not a lot of coaches can do that and not a lot of players can handle it either.
