Game is at home, opposite NCAA round of 32 games. I wonder what the crowd looks like?

Looks like they lost by 7 @ Miami and won at BG by 5. Should be another tight contest against a solid mid-major. Regardless of what anyone else says, they games are great for us heading into next season. Playing close ballgames against good basketball teams is never a bad thing.

I will be in the Convo!   Can watch the replays from the NCAA's after our game !  Good chance to get good looks at the future of Bobcat Basketball, while also getting to see some more of our seniors !

Dane Fife left to head off to Michigan St as an asst. Had some turnover in the program. Kiboliski was a kid we had in the Convo on a visit but backed off in 2010. Played at Elkhart . Guards are pretty good and finish at the rim. The big kid in the middle is a load. Pure beef with good feet.

Most of the kids I knew left when Fife took off, one of our Muncie Central guys that graduated with Tommy is an asst at Princeton but he has tweeted about the match up already. one of our other MC guys graduated IPFW a year later and signed on as an assistant this year. I will try to get a little better info out of those 2 this week.

Yep, they unearthed a mastodon skeleton in the area and have it on display on campus.   I'm originally from The Fort and is Indiana's 2nd largest city and often forgotten about, but is actually a nice city.  Love this match up.  IPFW has grown quickly the past decade.

They used to play home games in Memorial Coliseum

I just posted this in the other thread too but I doubt the students will turn out. Games right in the middle of a fest. That being said we should see a lot more non students than we did tonight being on the weekend at a good time

So, the more post-season games we play, the more it proves that we shouldn't be playing in this tourney?

We're playing mastadons!  If we hadn't gone for the tourney, we couldn't say that.  I love this:  we're playing prehistoric animals.  WE'RE PLAYING MASTADONS!

Fests happen every year, but you don't always get post season Bobcat basketball!!! I'll be there to watch this team go into the next round! Loved the hustle of the team tonight, and can't wait to see what happens on Saturday!

Tony Jascick .. I am not sure of the spelling . He stepped in when Fife left. The guys I talked to liked him. His background is almost non exsistent but he has a mind for the game. Started up north at NAIA Newberry College and went to MTSU for a short stint before coming home to the Dons.

IPFW has a rich history in Mens volleyball competing at the highest levels for a long run.NCAA runner up and HC Arnie Ball is one of the finest coaching from HS to the Olympics. Several Olympians have come out of IPFW and many men are still playing overseas.

Indiana and Purdue are never gonna let those campuses change their names. Thumb squarely on thier heads. NO way are they ever going to let those schools gain steam to the point they could become independent.

The arena they play in is named for Hilliard Gates, who was a legendary sportscaster for WKJG, Channel 33 from the beginning of FW TV until he retired in the '70s or '80s.  He did their nightly sports and the HS basketball championship (back in the day when Indiana had only one HS tournament).  I think he did some HS sports on radio too.

Speaking of Indiana HS basketball.......came across this gallery on a blog I read from time to time.  Thought many of you would enjoy it:

I remember having a major dislike for Dane Fife when he played for IU.  Wasn't he on the Hoosier team that beat Kent St in the Elite 8?

Fife may have taken some PR hits as a result of his being loyal and vocal in his support of his coach.  Sniping Bobby Knight was at its peak and popular sport at that time.

Saw the Beach Boys there in '66 with my old squeeze Pam.  If I remember correctly, and I do, the road it was on was then named for a former mayor of Ft. Wayne, Harry W. Balls.  Johnny Appleseed's grave was at the end of that road.  Needless to say, they had difficulty keeping the road sign posted and it looks like the name was changed.

Borna can verify the name I'm sure.  Sadly, Pam, a Miss Teen Indiana finalist, dumped me once Uncle Sam called.  Ahhhh, memories of Harry Balls Drive.

Fort wayne mayor was spelled Baals.

Not to be confused with the Big Ball family in Muncie that made a fortune in glass. (Does Dr Pepper come in a bottle?) harry was a pretty darned good mayor....and yes the Real Johnny Appleseed is part of Ft Wayne's history along with" Mad " Anthony Wayne and his quelling of tribal indians in the Battle of Fallen Timbers. Treaty of Greenville had no effect and the land of the Injuns became a home to the white man shortly after the signing.

Failed attempt at naming the govt center after ole Harry Baals made national headlines.

Right, TF; the spelling was incorrect.  Blame the fuzzy memory of a freshman year at IIT and the sound of the name rather than the proper spelling.
