Well I'm not sure what JC was really attempting to say with his comments around the 3 other tournaments other than the NCAA in today's Messinger,
Was he saying:
1) He really believes what he said?
or
2) Was he attempting to use this as motivation for his team? After all he admitted that last years team was not interested in playing in any other tournament than the NCAA, and it showed.

After what was reported about the team break down after the Akron loss I am thinking they would have a lot of work to do to turn around that disappointment into playing well and win tomorrow night.

What has been reported about a break down?

So do we connect the dots with this comment and tie it to Jon Smith's departure?

I also find Tom Crean's tweet amusing..."the players that thrive on competition always get better and make you win.  The players that avoid competition hold back every1 else back"  This after IU turned down opportunity to play in post season.

Possibly but I'm pretty sure it was directed right at Bobby Hurley.

Two years in a row with this question about a lower level post season tournament.  None of us knows what all is going on or went on last year.  Basic management says: The goals should be set at the beginning of the year.  And, ALL players should buy into them then.  So, in this case, for two years in a row I would ask: Was the team goal to play in ONLY the NCAA?  Only the top two tournaments (NCAA/NIT) ?  Or, in ANY post season tournament.   In my opinion, there would be no discussion or dissension if this was handled correctly AND the TEAM follows the eralier agreed upon goals.  If they are having votes and discussion AFTER the year, no wonder there is an internal problem.  Just like this Board, some say play in the tournament some say don't.  Making things clear early on solves the problem before it arises again!

hahhahah not half as much as he is when holding court at a HS game or in public in Indiana when those fans are lapping at his feet.

For the record his obnoxiouisness pales and is a distant second once you meet his wife. That woman is over the top rude and offputting...... her 2 brothers, Both NFL coaches, are positively angelic compared to her general demeanor in public.

Casper71--You're better than that post about 'set goals in beginning of year and hold to them.'  You know that life and business changes and one must adapt.

I love seeing OUr team play.  So much heart.  In addition to our key scorers not putting up points but the lesser scorers stepping up to fill the void tonight, there is this:  CSU came in 3rd best 3ball shooting % in NCAA and we held them to 26% on 3balls.  This team is a pleasure to follow and cheer for.  Much, much heart.

Monroe, seriously?  Now I hear the bball team just may have a stated goal on the wall that says: "Advance in the NCAA tourney".  So why not make it "Advance in any Post Season Tournament that OHIO is invited to so the kids know exactly what is going to be expected of them early on.

As for JS,  I don't think any of us has talked to him and/or knows the reasons why he left.  So, I won't speculate.  I'm disappointed too but it is water over the damn and it gave TC and Setty the opportunity to step up and show what they will ad to the team this year and next.  That's a good thing.
