Congrats to Kuwick, found a nice home and continues to write great game plans. Dayton has long waited for this return to excellence. They were the winningest team in basketball in the 50s/60s and had a FF appearance vs UCLA. I am truly happy for them .... I may have to scare up my DOn DOnoher basketball camp t shirt for my nephews to wear

Extremely happy for Coach Kuwik. I am certain his work ethic hasn't changed at all and I would not bet against them if I knew he had the next scout.

Got to talk with a couple of guys from the 1984 team today. Very cool vibe in the area for UD right now. Looking back through the stats and marveling at Roosevelt Chapman's scoring run.

Coach Kuwik is a great man. Surprisingly, I just learned last week that he graduated from the same high school as me (St. Francis in Hamburg, NY).

It's shocking because I've read articles about him ever since Ohio took down UB in the 2005 MAC Championship Game but never knew of his connection to Buffalo.

Maybe we start/resume a thread on if he'll get an HC gig somewhere, perhaps Manhattan if they part ways with Masiello for good...

Absolutely loved watching Chapman that year, guy was a machine down the stretch. Thankful to be living in Dayton at that time.

RRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOSSSEEEEVVeeeeeeelllllllttttttt!!!! that was a good era for Hoops. I was in Chicago out by the Horizon watching Depaul

Living in Dayton....there were a few prominent posters who related in the past that they lived in Dayton at the time. Pretty sure Joe Mac was outta there by then.

I was still in Dayton back in '84, Borna. I watched the Sweet 16 game at UD Fieldhouse with friends. The '84 Dayton team was a lot like this one. They squeaked into the tournament. They had great scoring balance. They were perimeter-oriented with Velvet Chapman, Sedric Toney and Damon Goodwin. I think Anthony Grant was on that team, too.

I was in junior high/high school when Donald Smith and Johnny Davis played for UD -- great backcourt combo. It was a fun to watch the Flyers during the 70s as there were rivalries with Notre Dame/Digger Phelps, DePaul/Ray Meyer, UC/Gale Catlett and even Detroit/Dick Vitale.

Our high school coach at Stebbins, Gene Klaus, was a guard and captain on the Flyers team that beat North Carolina in the national semis and fell to UCLA 79-64 in the 1967 title game.

In recent times, they've had some Columbus players that David squared off against -- Chris Johnson of Brookhaven and Jalen Robinson/Westerville South & then Northland.

Ohio is my top team, of course. But I still follow the Flyers a bit.

You are bringing back lots of memories.  I started to follow Dayton when they had Don May.  I always thought that Hank Finkel reminded me of Frankenstein.  They had some great teams back then.  My lasting memory of UD Arena was the Ohio - Notre Dame game in the NCAA.  Austin Carr put on a show that I will never forget.  That game was during spring break so I was at home and could attend.
