Last fall Texas was looking for a new AD.  Speculation centered around two candidates , one being the AD at West Virginia.  Had he gotten the position, conjecture was that Jim Schaus would leave to go to WVU.  How would Bobcat Nation have responded to JS leaving?  Is that analogous to JC leaving for BC?  Just  wondering what your thoughts would be.

I'd be more bummed about Schaus leaving, but I wouldn't feel as "played" as I am by Christian. Maybe played isn't the right word. Had Schaus gone to WVU I would have been down because of the great AD he has been. However, him going there is just the next step in the process of an AD. He's building his resume.

This Christian to BC thing is just weird and it feels like he used Ohio to a degree. I don't think it's wrong for him to leave, because he's obviously going to get paid a lot more in a better conference. But it's just the way things have played out I guess.

Losing Schaus would be 10 times more devastating than any coach IMO. With some of the apathy of MAC ADs, it would be a shame to have the possibility of having someone like that at the helm of Ohio athletics. His track record of reloading for hoops should put us at ease somewhat, although current situation appears as a bit of a miscalculation by JS if things go as expected. Or perhaps a blindside. But 100 times out of 100 I'd rather have JS picking our next HC than Boeh or Kirby. We are lucky to have held onto him as long as we have.

My original post was really asking whether the level of animosity towards Schaus would approach the feelings against Christian being expressed in most of these posts on the other thread.

I don't think you would see any. If you did, it would be from those people who are misinformed. If Ohio isn't a destination job for a coach, it most certainly isn't for an AD. Schaus has done some great things here, so you can't really be ticked off at him if he leaves.

My bad. My thoughts are it would be much like Groce... You know they're heading for a bigger stage at some point and you'll be sad when it happens. But not completely unexpected. Whereas JC doesn't seem to have quite the accomplishments at Ohio yet, so it's unexpected(blindsiding)if he goes.

And a important criteria for ADs & coaches from my standpoint, especially ones like Groce/Schaus who you expect to head out for more money/fame - that they leave it as good OR BETTER than they found it. Solich=yes, Schaus=yes, Groce=yes. JC, no not yet, and I think that's why it's so surprising he's looking to head out.

Maybe I'm just the village idiot, but I don't feel betrayed by anyone who takes the opportunity to choose a higher paying, better fitting career path.  I didn't fault Groce for leaving for Illinois, he saw a chance to make a lot more money and go to a higher profile position, and he took it.  I don't blame him for taking that opportunity.  Same with Schaus, had he left for WVU.  Let's face it, bigger school, probably more money, bigger conference, and didn't he have WV (family) ties?  If Christian leaves for an ACC head job and making 2-3 times the amount of money we can pay him here, I don't blame him for doing so.

If you worked for Frognet uptown and Google called...or worked as a professor at OU and MIT or Harvard called and said they wanted you...what would you do?

I don't think you would see animosity toward Schaus. I also don't think that you would toward Christian if he accomplished more here: He did win a regular season title, but that was with Groce's sweet sixteen team that didn't lose anybody. If he would take this next season team (mostly his guys) to MAC title and NCAA tournament, i don't think people would be nearly as shocked. I also thing a lot of the animosity is shock...as in why would Boston College want him. Lets face it he hasn't even proven himself to a lot of Ohio fans.

My personal opinion of Christian: good coach, nice guy, not very exciting, and he is going to get eaten alive if he goes to Boston College.

The position that is even more important than the A.D. is the President.  As long as we have someone in "office" who understands the importance of the athletic program to the health of the university as we currently enjoy with R.Mc. we will be fine.   He will see to it that we have an A.D. that shares his vision.  When he retires......then you will see real concern and worry from all Bobcats connected to Ohio Athletics.

From my perspective there'd be no animosity if Mr. Schaus left for another position.  I don't actually know the man, but from everything I've read he's one of the nicest and most upstanding people one could hope to meet.  Given that, one can assume he would only leave on the best of terms.  He probably would've told McDavis well in advance he was leaving and would probably have a well thought out list of very good candidates he'd tell McDavis Ohio should consider.  He definitely would not leave Ohio hanging.

And that's the crux of my problem IF (and still a big IF since we really have no facts yet) these rumors of JC leaving are true.  I cannot fault him for leaving to take the BC job.  Assuming the rumors are true (again, a big assumption) it's the WAY this is all going down that I have a problem with.  There are good ways and bad ways to leave a company (as an employer I know and have experience in this area) and it would appear from afar that JC might be leaving in a bad way.  He seems to be leaving Ohio hanging and taking Ohio's best recruit with him.  That's what I have a problem with.  Groce didn't do that (ironically, the criticism Groce endured from the LeVert camp was that Groce didn't follow up with him after Groce left for Illinois).

Does MIT have The Pub? How is this even a question?

I think a lot of posters think he hasn't proven himself because we didn't get to the NCAA. As far as I'm concerned this past year he accomplished a TON. We lose Ric in early January. TJ is hobbled all year. Mo has the back issues. Stevie breaks a bone in his leg. Travis end up with shoulder separation. All that and we win 25 games.  The man coached extremely well given the hand he had to play. And it's quite possible that BC sees what he accomplished in face of a lot of adversity.

So much buzz...Could someone please state the actual facts here.  (JC spoke with BC...JC visited there ...or whatever?)

Then, for those who don't like the process, what would you expect instead?  What's the better way to do it?  What would cause less angst here?
