With that title, George Thorogood needed to be an option.

Why do we have fans on here who think like a low major school in that we need to coax someone with a prior connection to the school into taking job, hoping that magic chemistry will save us? 10 years ago when this job only paid 150,000 a year and hadn't been to tournament in a decade it was worth contemplating. The bar has been raised significantly with the last 2 hires.

I'm not against hiring an assistant if they bring the right schemes to the table. We are at the point where no assistant if we made an offer would turn us down unless they are a coach in waiting. With the buy games, charter flights and apparel contracts Ohio is run like a major program now. The Convo is getting new seats and a basketball practice facility is in the planning stages. This is a chance to bring in a big name and tie it to a donor to get the projects done.

Everybody bitches about our schedule.....not sure about the apparel....but charter flights.  Yeah sure...that's a reason for coaches to come here.

I want a good coach to come here as much as the next guy.

But if you guys think we're gonna get a name coach you may be more than delusional.

A basketball Solich ain't out there.

Pete you are a genius. 31 years of Division 1 head coaching experience. 8 NCAA appearances and 4 NIT's. Didn't win at Rice and JC didn't win at TCU. They just are not basketball schools.

New seats - that will attract top talent.  Charter flights out of Columbus - yep, I can't wait to take a bus to get on that plane.  Donor - student fees completed the indoor facility and is the locker room done, yet?  As for apparel contracts, are you talking about fan wear or what the team wears.  Wes, you type a good post but are your boots anchored in reality?

Alan the administration over the last 10 years has always pledged to raise the bar with new hires. I don't see why the attitude would regress to the Glidden days for this hire. Ohio lately is doing well with increased enrollment and a 9% surplus of money from the state. There is nothing in my mind that suggests they would go cheap here with an average MAC hire. The MAC is counting on Ohio to be a leader in pushing up the basketball profile of the conference.

Ben Braun, us old guys can remeber him.  Not a young firebrand, obviously, but may be the kind of guys who would stay more than two years.  Not a bad choice at all.  i think we all agree OHIO has a better pedigree than...Rice?

We could do worse!

What we need is obvious.  To avoid going through this again in our lifetimes we need to strike Solich Gold again.  We need a coach in his late 50s who won 75% of his games at a "power" conference school but was fired because he didn't get along with the AD, someone who grew up in Ohio and is looking for a job in city with lots of shopping and a major airport but who falls in love with SE Ohio.

Should be simple.

If I've learned anything from JC, it"s this.  I don't care if its Ben Bruan, Jeff Boals or Rick Byrd.  Fact is that no matter who we hire, if he has success, he'll probably be offered a power conference job.  And the next sound you hear will be his tires squealing as he speeds out of town...

I disagree with those who say this is a great program.  Coaches don't leave great programs.  This is a wonderful steppingstone for coaches on the make.

We will never get to another level.  Given our location and conference affiliation we are  what we are:  Consistently one of the best teams in slowly declining conference.  Kinda like the best house in a declining neighborhood.  And you just can't move the entire house to a new neighborhood.
