Looking at the future for Ohio Basketball I think returning to Chris Holtmann would be a great hire.  He was the main recruiter when Groce was here and he is a proven winner when he was at Gardner Webb.  I would think after going back to being an assistant for a year he'd be ready to take over the head position again.  He knows the recruiting landscape of the midwest.  We don't miss a beat and may in fact take a step further in the right direction.

Anyone know why he went from head coach back to assistant voluntarily? Borna?

I think this article explains some of it.  I think the ties to the Midwest were a big part too.  I think he's from northern Kentucky area.

I remember when Tony Bennett took over the UVA position, I believe in 2009, he hired away Liberty's head coach.  He wasn't fired from Liberty, just left to take the assistant job.  Here's his bio.

Would he be interested in the job?  I'm not so sure it would be an automatic. From reading the article, he didn't leave Gardner-Webb on a whim and would only leave there if the situation was right.  Apparently the situation at Butler is right.  He seems like a worthy candidate.

I don't know but I hope we at least try and find out if he is.  It would be a huge win for us if he is willing.  As I read the article I love hearing about a guy caring about the guys that he's coaching.  Who wouldn't want their son to play for someone like that!

Groce said that. Christian said that. C'mon it's just coach-speak. Most are out for #1 at the end of the day. It's not necessarily a bad thing...just reality.

Difference is that Holtmann embodies it....firsthand observation. SOme guys are invested and love their kids ....others treat them like players.

Just read his Wikipedia entry to learn more about his full history before and after OHIO.  I would be fine with him as the new HC here.

Yeah but Holtmann abandoned his players and the program at Garnder-Webb.  The jerk.

I assume he'll be on the list.  He sure recruited well when he was here.

There's a huge difference about leaving when the cupboard is bare of good players versus leaving it when the program is on an upswing. He left Gardner Webb at the best time for the program. Built it up and handed it off. One is selfish. He was not.
