No surprise here that Akron lost to Creighton. Ohio knows Creighton is a tough out from a few years ago.
Getting to the dance and losing the first game is bittersweet and chances are the Bobcats would have lost that game too by a similar score. Working so hard all year to qualify for the tournament and then losing is a bummer. Next year the Bobcats chances are better by keeping and adding to the team.

Hypothetical but I think we lose this game by a wider margin than Akron did. Creighton would've been a matchup nightmare for us in the paint.

Almost anyone would have been a nightmare matchup for us in the paint.

Agreed. Akron was better than us, and proved that on the court.

They had better top end talent, and their length was a huge, huge problem for us.

When we've gone on runs in the tournament, it's because we have enough big talent to neutralize the paint, or at least come close. Guys like BVP, Reggie Keeley, Dwight Wilson, DeVaughn, etc kept us from getting beaten up in the paint. If you can do that, you can win if you have guards that can score.

This year's team got beaten up in the paint up and down the MAC. I think we'd have had a very, very tough time matching up with any P5 teams.

That would depend how shooting beyond the ARC would go. Look at Oakland Yesterday!

Yeah, I guess. But I don't think it's a recipe for success with our roster that we can only beat good teams if our 3 point shooting -- which isn't actually a strength of our roster -- shoots the lights out.

Akron played well in the first half and avoided a blowout. Creighton is an exceptional team.

I think BLSS is basically correct about Ohio's team. But this season was an aberration on the paint issues. I am hopeful this will be addressed for next year's roster.

I think we have to give props to the Ohio coaching staff for developing this team into a decent, competitive group. Ended up in the top half of D1 according to the metrics.

Taking it back another 2 or 3 decades, Danny Nee's best teams had a frontline of John Deverauex, Vic Alexander, Eddie Hicks and Nate Cole, that could match up with the better teams from bigger conferences.

If the Ducks play like they did against SC, they will give Creighton a good game (hopefully... otherwise all my coworkers will be sad - but over it quickly as they care much more for football Ducks).

Oakland also outrebounded Kentucky 40-39 (14-11 offensive). Think we could have done that?

Creighton is a handful. No shame in Akron losing to them. Mitchell was a 13 point scorer for the Bobcats this season and very good player for Ohio. He was the ninth leading scorer for Creighton last season averaging less than two points a game. Talent wise big difference in what Creighton brings to the table compared to MAC schools.

I didn't like the Creighton matchup for Akron. To be honest, I didn't think it would be as close as it was. It's crazy to say, and I'm not just saying it because they lost last night, but Kentucky would have been a better matchup. Kentucky's bigs aren't as good as they usually are, they don't play much defense, and they're an exceptionally young team. Akron's length, defense, and experience I think would have played well against UK.

Boals needs to get this right in the portal with a big. I feel like it’s Groundhog Day all over again. His track record with bigs is not good.
