Stackhouse was SEC coach of the year LAST YEAR. And he's out.

Most of those guys he won with were players from the former staff I think. I have a feeling the alums got tired of his sideline antics and bullying, but he also didn't recruit very well or deliver on the expectations people had for him. I thought from the beginning it was a terrible hire. Former alum and Fab Five member or not, he'd never coached a game before and never recruited. I'm not sure what Michigan was expecting, but when they lost Beilein they kinda had their backs against a wall.

A case study in why you can't say only March matters. He managed to win a few tournament games to paper over a program in decline.

Fascinating discussions surrounding this in Hoops circles. NBA dudes going back into coaching or even former higher-level players returning to Coaching.

Hoiberg, Stackhouse, Pope, Ewing, Mullen, Woodsen are some of the dudes adding to a database of players turned coaches that embraces the spectrum from recruiting to program management and in-game coaching

"home run hires" proclaimed at the time the contract is signed change based on wins over time. It is hard to win. 351 schools are trying to claw out 20-win seasons and fight for 68 spots.
