Anybody else feel like there was a huge discrepancy between us and ASU in terms of athleticism and length?
I get what you’re saying, but when the other team doesn’t miss what can you do? Certainly a combination of athleticism and poor defense. Reef out was a killer. Elmore had no business getting 33 minutes.
Onward and forward.
Don't you think their athleticism and length led to better shots?
They shot very well; but that's not just some flip of the coin thing that we had no control over. They got good look after good look because we couldn't stay in front of them, and even when we closed out we were giving up several inches at every position.
I'm very surprised by the talent disparity between the MAC and Sunbelt. 10 years ago this would have been hard to believe. That league seems to have leapfrogged us.
I think you have to factor how much the Sun Belt has changed with the realignment over the last decade in comparison to MAC. The Sun Belt lost schools like North Texas, FAU and added App State, James Madison, and Old Dominion, for example.
It’s been 17 years, but everyone remembers App State beating Michigan. That gives the Sun Belt some mainstream identity when you factor how much App State has continued to progress in college athletics since. Outside of being a fan of the MAC, I’m not sure any casual fan can attach a specific school as the cream of the crop.
From a basketball perspective, I’m wondering if geography is playing a role. Some of these kids may experience a harsh winter and decide they want to head south via portal.
