"A small team that can't shoot."

Topic title and above reasoning comes from what college team's message board? Not Bobcatattack.

UCLA is a mystery too. They have a top 5 recruiting class, Cronin is a coach with 23 big dance games under his belt...

Yet they lost 8 of 9 in a row before last weekend including a home loss to Cal State-Northridge. Maybe it's possible to have a good coach and good players but if the team is young and there is no chemistry, that adds up to trouble?

But our lack of depth is really a sore spot. One more injury before Ben Estis becomes a rotation player.

At least now that the Bahama guy is (rumored to be) gone, that allowed some extra recruiting, to take chances on the next under-recruited Preston or like that 8-foot-tall white kid at YSU who didn't have any other D-1 offers. You can coach up a raw big man but you coach a kid into being 7-feet-tall.

This kid is at John Logan Juco and is at least 7-0 tall by now.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DsWI2SI0DU

He's averaging 11/7 on a decent juco team with eleven rotation players.

"Fire this clown" was a thread on one of OSU's message boards immediately after their loss to Michigan yesterday.

The natives are getting restless in buckeye country. Both in football and basketball.

I will say it, and I'm used to it up there. Losing 3 straight to TTUN turns the guns of the athletic dept eyes towards other teams, looking for something to beat them in. Now that this is going to be another "January Swoon" in Buckeye Country, the natives are getting restless. It's Year 7, and the same problems that continue to plague the program exist as they did after the COVID year. Unfortunately, the NCAA Tournament getting cancelled in 2020 did more than change the trajectory of that program, and for him couldn't have been worse.

With a new AD coming in and wanting to raise a warchest, don't be shocked to watch Nate Oats to be the name that gets thrown around, unless Ann Arbor also happens to fire their coach, which means then guns turn towards Dusty May to take the job.....

Probably preaching to the choir on this one, but it's gonna get worse before it gets better under Ross Bjork.

The "natives" have become a bit spoiled, and think that because they pay coaches mega bucks it automatically should translate to Final Fours and CFP Final appearances and wins.

I think every fanbase needs an occasional humbling to bring things back in perspective. OSU is one of those at the moment.

Ohio State hasn't had a "sexy" program for a while. It's mostly apathy, but they could do a lot worse than taking a big swing for someone like Pat Kelsey, Speedy Claxton... get some energy back into that building. It's why I thought Ohio State had less than a 0% chance at Bronny. Holtmann is just so... MEH. Just such a suit and tie, business dad bleh. No pizzaz.

College landscape has just changed so much. Long gone are the days where - honestly, people like Boals and Albin - put in their dues for two decades as an assistant before getting their shot. It's former players, it's these young guys who get an assistant role right out of college and have 10 years of experience by 35 years old. Every program needs a few shots of life, OSU is at that point.

You mean like our residents who want to fire our staff because we spend such a hefty salary compared to MAC schools?

You ain’t wrong! And head coaches will continue to get younger in both college and the professional ranks. The older group in many ways just ain’t down with the change. And now you have a person with a 9th year of eligibility and where state AG’s and legislators are going, there may be zero eligibility requirements in a couple years.

Tell us more. I always wondered what it would have been like here at OU if we had hired this guy instead of Schaus.

Well for starters he was the guy who oversaw the Hugh Freeze mess at Ole Miss and also the guy who gave Jimbo Fisher the most ludicrous extension and buyout in the history of college football.

Counterpoint: He's also the guy that marshaled the resources at Texas A&M to buy out a coach without using any university money.

The name of the game in college athletics these days is private fundraising. He gets a good grade in that area, at least.

Last I saw there is university money in this buy out. I may be wrong, but I am interested in knowing.
