TK is basically paid half of what Boals is paid. Boals will make $692k this year. TK has a $334k base and gets something like $45k in incentive comp.

Interesting. I must have been looking at outdated info. I saw something that seemed to say that in 21-22 he made $334k + 30k, and that the 30k number increases by 15k per year.

I think Kowalczyk signed an extension in 2022 so who knows where he is now? Toledo usually ranks well in coaching pay so I doubt Kowalczyk is below MAC market rates.

It took Dambrot a few tries to figure out how to win in Cleveland. Once he did, the lid was off and Akron was arguably the conference's top program. I know we're talking about a longer timeframe with Toledo, but be careful about hanging that albatross on Tod. One good week could completely change the next decade.
I think TK is the best Coach in the conference, and has been for quite a while. One of these years, it's all going to click in Cleveland - and like JSF said - watch out.
I would say TK, Groce, and our favorite little troll Senderoff from Kent are 1a,b,c.

Unfortunately for us, that former EggZavier guy at Miami may have put Boals in the 5th/6th best coach in the MAC right now.

in theory toledo and AKRON and Toledo should be among the macs best as should buffalo. the main reason being that those are bigger cities than the other mac teams and thus a larger market

Steele’s 12-20 record last season has you that convinced, eh?

Whatever it is, it works better with a Preston or Cooper.
And the Bulls worked better with Jordan. Having NBA players indeed helps.
Tell Billy Hahn that.

Last season, no. But they're a bit better. Ohio isn't looking better than last year. Not yet anyway.

I will say, I typed this in the 1H yesterday. The second half was probably the best half I've seen from Ohio in awhile. Hopefully it will continue to trend that way.

Miami is getting some quality minutes, albeit inconsistent, from five freshmen. A couple of point guards, Isparo and Cooper, a big guard, Elmer, and 2 bigs, Kotecki and 7-footer Potter. Potter is starting to look like the real deal.

Ohio is playing no freshmen with Nicol redshirting despite desperately needing help on the inside. Makes you wonder.

Both programs have 2 high school players for next year. Ohio has Burris and Evans. Miami is bringing in one of the best high school point guards in Ohio, Skaljac. Several MAC schools, including Ohio, offered Skaljac. They also have a 6-7 player out of Pennsylvania who was offered by Maryland.

In my opinion, Steele is upgrading the Miami roster while Ohio's roster has a lot of deficiencies that need to be addressed.

My hope is TK, Groce, Senderhoff & Boals all stick around and do well. That type of continuity at the top of the conference would only help all involved.

Not only the ones you mentioned - TK, Groce, Senderhoff & Boals - but also Steele (Miami), Lewis (Ball St.), Burno (NIU), and Simon (BG). Trying to be an optimist (not The Optimist) when it comes to MAC basketball, I have confidence these coaches will get things done. I believe their recent recruiting classes shows evidence of this.

The mystery is Buffalo and new coach Halcovage. I think he has the pedigree to be successful despite first-year disappointment. And I'm not too optimistic with how the Michigan schools are trending.

Bigger disappointment is I really liked eating at Chipotle. That ship has now officially sailed after learning of this tie to Fiami.

It all makes sense now. Chipotle drives me nuts, their entire image is built on the charade of somehow having morally superior food to everyone else (despite repeated foodborne illness issues). Of course that tone is coming from a Miami grad.

Somehow going from Boals' coaching record to the marketing strategy for Chipotle should have this thread in the running for Tangent of the Year.

That's really awesome.

Not for us, but for them. That's awesome. I especially like the part about using half the money to help graduates when they leave. Curious what that entails.

If you donate $2M you generally want your name on a building, they just want to cut a horrible basketball team checks for staying eligible and help them after they graduate. Noble.

Will be interesting to see if that is enough to entice anyone to go to Miami.

I was happy that Miami hired Steele for the good of the league, but I'm still skeptical he can do anything on the recruiting trail or on the floor without Xavier listed on his jacket or shirt.

That's a reach to say I portrayed extensive butthurt. I pointed out their unwarranted pretentious attitude of their product, and compared that to Miami grads and their view of themselves.

Agreed. For that to happen, some serious improving in the league needs to take place. This year has been brutal.
