I don't wanna hear that no one wants to play OU when they're scheduling YSU after the great run they had.
Thank you.....until we make another sweet 16 run folks inside the program need to stop saying "nobody wants to play OU".

Please remind all the folks playing at home, what great NCAA tournament run YSU "just had". (Pssst...that's all that matters).

Waiting for "but they made the Horizon semis and hosted (and promptly exited) an NIT game!"

That is not a "be scared of playing that mid" type of resume. Nor is YSU a well-known mid to be watched out for historically.

Detroit released their non conference schedule. Our home game with them is now on Saturday 11/18. This moves that game off the same date as our home football game with CMU and also gives us at least two non-conference Saturday home games against D1 opponents while students are in session, which is nice.

Do you really believe anyone is scared to play us — or another mid-major for that matter? YSU is coming off a 24 win season with a strong transfer class (including Ziggy Reid, who we had interest in); I wouldn’t be shocked to see it beat Dayton that early in the season.

LSU and UK played us after a tourney win, so that narrative doesn’t add up. Most teams just want quality games regardless. It’s weird we can’t get Dayton even as an away game and I don’t buy the notion teams are avoiding us out of fear.

The fact that we have so rarely played Dayton, and to a lesser extent Xavier, has always surprised me. I just looked it up and we have only played them seven times in our basketball history and have lost all seven games. I think that most of these games were probably before 1950. Is there some institutional animosity that explains this? Probably not, but I really can’t think of a good explanation.

The non conference schedule is here!

Well let's address the elephant in the room. There is no matchup or possibility of a matchup with a P5 or equivalent team. Doubt it's by design.

The good: HOME GAMES! Five home games with students on campus against D1 teams, three of which are on Saturdays. If you like hoops in the Convo, you'll enjoy this slate.

Davidson in Cleveland is a strange one. Wonder how that came to be. We should be able to get a H/H deal with Davidson. Since when do they get to call the shots? Not like you need to throw Cleveland alumni an extra bone with games at Kent, Akron, CSU, and the MAC Tourney, but I'm really jealous of you folks up there.

One possible explanation for Davidson is they have a senior captain from St. Eds. Maybe they wanted to give him a homecoming and needed a partner.

Duquesne and Bradley are meeting in Akron. Might be a new trend for mid-majors who can’t agree to H/H?

Pardon me?

A college with a total enrollment of 650 students that is facing an accreditation battle is the best we could do in December?

Otterbein is also D3 and they're a scrimmage.

We joked - in this very thread - about how we'll probably end up playing Marietta. (Also D3)

If this is a one off then it works in OUr favor as we should have more people there than Davidson and we get familiar again with Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. I don't know why Davidson would do that. Does Davidson recruit Cleveland hard? If this is our end of a home and home and we have to go to Davidson next year then not so much. We are already playing one game in Cleveland plus, hopefully, the quarterfinal and then two more. I wouldn't see the need for us to play up there again. I don't know why we would do that.

Yea, the Defiance game sucks; but otherwise I like the makeup of our non-conference schedule. Davidson is the only recognizable brand name. However, Delaware (looked at its MBB page) reloaded via the portal even after Jameer Nelson Jr left, YSU is likely the Horizon favorite, Troy returns top 7 scorers from a 20 win team, GW is loaded with P5 talent, and Davidson is a year removed from a tourney appearance.

Austin Peay is a little bit of a mystery with a coaching change. Its new coach brought a number of his guys from Northwestern State. Including Hansel Emmanuel, the kid with one arm.

If we win in Nassau, we get stronger games. If win in general, the second Sun Belt/MAC challenge game ends up being stronger.

Davidson has a senior from Aurora who went to St. Eds. I'll bet that's what it is. Give your senior a homecoming. I like when teams do that. They probably couldn't get Cleveland State, Kent, or Akron to work. Maybe they put a feeler out on Basketball Travelers that they wanted a game in the Cleveland area for their guy and we jumped on it.

I questioned it at first, but am now warming up to it.
1)It encourages our alumni to come out for a game vs a name brand opponent (even though they are not P5).
2)It is good for recruiting.
3)It gives this team a chance to have a big game experience in that building.

I like it.

Athens is close enough. Bring them to the convo and pay for a charter bus for his friends and family.

Sorry fellas…to me this non-con schedule is a bust. Not one Power 5 team on the schedule. Very disappointing with how it all played out. Just don’t get it.

Guarantee we're going to see more games in Cleveland. If we can't get that huge alumni base to travel to Athens, take the show to them. I like it. I wouldn't mind a football game being played in Cleveland or Canton.

The Cleveland game at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse is actually part of a doubleheader with Ohio State vs WVU being the other game. Those games should draw pretty well.

I actually like it more than last season’s; Michigan and Florida aside. I say that acknowledging I’m not sure why there isn’t a P5 game, considering we’ve had two in back-to-back seasons.

That's pretty cool. Nothing showing on the arena's events page yet. But quick Googling does show the OSU/WVU matchup on the same day.

It is on there. The Ohio vs. Davidson game isn't. No time is set but it is safe to say that it is a doubleheader.

Certainly not advocating a non-con schedule that features three P5 games per season, but there is no excuse to not schedule at least one of these games. None.

Austin Peay might end up being a pretty tough road game. Among the 6 players who followed the coach from Northwestern State include Southland POY (19.5ppg) and second leading scorer (15.4ppg and started at Missouri State). Also added an Iona/Mizzou transfer, Missouri State transfer, and a kid from Quinnipiac who averaged 13ppg. All upperclassmen. Should be in the mix for the ASUN.

100% agree with this. We basically just showed up to work unshaved, hair a mess, and in sweat pants. Be better.

Not excited about this schedule at all. I can see why they were pushing for people to renew tickets early.
