Nobody else in the conference... few mid-majors at all can make this kind of a claim. Pretty good selling point, I'd say.

Good stuff. Ohio is certainly one of the better Mid-Major jobs, all things considered - and it's getting to be an even better job as time goes on.

Which is why we should end up with a very good coach if JS does his job well.

Nee left for the Big 8 (Nebraska) and Hunter, as I recall, could've gone to K-State (Big 8 or Big 12) at the time.

Outside of Timmy O'Shea, OU knows how to pick 'em.

I pointed out in a similar thread a few days ago we should feel proud and honored to have our two most recent BBall coaches get 7 figure offers from the B10 and the ACC.

Groce I understand - he was white-hot off the Georgetown win and Sweet 16 run.

Christian I don't understand and the offer simply baffles me.

The theme I keep hearing/reading is the Eddie Fogler connection and the BC AD being a former Miami/MAC guy.

Its weird to bash a coach you liked, but I agree for a school like BC this decision is kind of baffling.  Now if we had made the NCAA last year and won at least one game and if this year we had at least won the CIT I could understand it.

The last 5 head coaches that have come into Athens after a national coaching search have either won the MAC tourney or a MAC regular season title. Danny Nee, Larry Hunter, Tim O'shea, John Groce, Jim Christian. You can fool me once with a lucky hire but 5 straight coaches going back 30+ years says something. It says that its a very safe situation for a good coach to come into.

" The Cradle of Basketball Coaches Who Leave For Schools With Unrealistic Expectations Of National Success...And Bryant" doesn't fit on promotional material very well.

Its a point if I'm an AD trying to sell this job that I would bring up. Everybody whether its a Midwest or East Coast recruiting coach wins at Ohio.

This is really a big deal. Even if this is just used as a "stepping stone" Schaus is going to be able to sell the job prospects after Ohio in a big way. That is so huge.

I hate to break it to you, but it is not 5 straight.  Everyone is apparently forgetting Billy Hahn was between Nee and Hunter.  His reign was three years of declining basketball, but he did take the 88 team to the MAC finals.

While it's nice to say "wow" at, it doesn't really help our program.

Kids who are recruited want the same coach for their 4 years. If losing a coach after 2 or 3 years becomes a common occurence, recruits may look elsewhere for better stability.

I'm wondering why we never hear of Akron's coach being considered for any of these positions. They have had as much, if not MORE success in the MAC as we have had of the last 6 or 7 years and their coach remains and has become a mainstay for what 10 years now?

One word he uttered at Central pretty much means he'll never be considered for a major coaching job. Especially in a major media market like Boston.

Never winning NCAA Tourney games, the Central incident and age pretty much take KD off any big-time list.

Wes' point was the last 5 coaches that have come in after an open national search.  Billy was promoted to Head Coach from being Danny Nee's assistant.

And he pissed away some of the best talent we have ever had here.  He had not one, but TWO MAC players of the year on the team at the same time...

We'll find a good coach. We may have to up the ante a bit, though. If Christian was making 425k and we want experience, we may have to flirt with 500 to 600k.

So, you are saying that they promoted Hahn without looking at anyone else?  I have no knowledge of the situation, but I find that hard to believe.

Wanna go back to Dale Bandy following Jim Snyder...

Let's go back to the beginning of the MAC, OHIO has ALWAYS been one of the top programs.  That's why we get good coaches, there is a history that, with the exception of a few not so hot coaches or years, has been pretty good.  Snyder to the Elite 8, Nee to the NCAAs, Hunter (help me out here), O'shea to the NCAAs, Groce to the NCAAs, and the latest JC to the NIT/CIT.

So, let's go find another good coach and continue the tradition.

As well as not one, but two, NBA draft picks.
