Forgive me if this has been discussed at length in other threads, but I wondered what everyone's take is on how next year's rotation might look. Biggest question I'd see is at the 2-3 spots. Who will be our best 3-point threats?

I'll start with my guess at the starters:

PG: Taylor (with Willis sliding over when Taylor rests)
SG: Willis
SF: Setty
PF: Ndour
C: Campbell

That's dependent upon a lot of things, the biggest of them being if a JUCO player comes in who's good enough to start, or if a freshman is good enough to fit in there.

I'm sure Crute and Harley would get lots of minutes at the 2 or 3. I'm guessing Owens will see lots of time at the 4. Maybe since Ndour dribbles fairly well, he could get minutes at the 3 too?

Don't know who else will get heavy minutes right away. Still so sorry to hear Wingfield's career is apparently over (according to the scholarship thread).

I'd be surprised based on what I've heard about him if Wiggington isn't the guy who starts at the Three instead of Setty.  Otherwise, I agree with your projections unless the news about Wingfield is not accurate and he ends up playing.

I see Setty & Bean as valuable role players off the bench that can fill multiple minutes.  I'm anxious to see what Crute, Harley, and Owens give the team next year.

Edit:  I'd also agree that I'd like to see what happens with N'Dour at the 3.  THAT could be exciting.

Ndour at the three worries me because he was a bit turnover-prone when he put the ball on the floor. I like Taylor, Morillo, Wigginton, Ndour, and Campbell to start with Willis, Crute, Harley, and Setty off the bench. Even though he's a 4-star recruit, I don't imagine Owens will be better than Ndour, Campbell, and Setty at first, so I expect a competition between Owens and Mompremier for the last post spot in the rotation.

I promise that Owens will be starting. He is a player.

What bigtilly said.  Of course it depends on  #13.  If that is a Johnson from Purdue or anyone from Indiana then of course 13 moves up to maybe 1-5.  Highly doubtful but as Jouaqin Andujar said....junevano.

I agree with moving Willis to shooting guard. We need a blur to come in who sees the court well and can take care of the ball. And that means another JC who's ready for prime time or a Frosh good enough to complement Stevie and be able to take over in year two.

I am going to repeat what I said in chat.....I don't really feel smart enough to talk about guys I have not seen on a college campus in a practice, nor do I know enough about how the staff sees them to really have ANY idea of how they are going ot be used.

I could study their HS skillsets till the cows come home but the staff may develope them or used them differently. Tommy played the 4 in HS and was his coach's 4th scoring option.

I am way too smart to stick my foot in my mouth this far ahead of time.

I think I am too smart for that too but it usually doesn't stop me.  You, Bornacatfan, could get away with it because you have a perspective that most of us don't have.

I do agree that it is too early to speculate on how OUr recruits fit into the mix for next year.

i predict that there will be moments of enthusiastic positive cheering followed by equally negative head shaking for a good part of next year's season.  I also predict that there will be an OHIO swagger that the rest of the MAC only wishes it could have.

I may not know much about college basketball, but one things I have learned is that I don't get too overly excited about recruiting hype until about 1/4-1/2 through any season.  Learned those lessons with Jackson, Ottrix, etc...  Only then do we know what we have and not from AAU teams, video clips or the number of stars next to their names.

Realizing I have no clue about any of our recruits, my hunch is that we have only 2 confirmed starters going into next year, that being either Taylor/Willis & N'dour.  I think you can safely pencil in a third with Campbell.  I would be very surprised if Willis and Taylor started along side of one another.    I think the only way that happens is if our recruiting class does not have another suitable 2 guard at which point Bean starts there by default.   I think the other two starters will be guys who weren't on the active roster this season.

JC will have a challenge balancing playing time for the bigs if Owens and Wiggington's play commands substantial minutes as predicted.  Campbell & Ndour are 30+ minute guys, I don't see anything changing that.  That could mean Setty could find similar or even less minutes next year than he had this year...And Mompremier could find himself in year 2 of a very limited role.  None of this is a knock on those guys, there is just only so many minutes to go around.

Imagine If Rio Adams wasn't a total head case and had stayed and used his transfer year to get as committed as Bean and Walt were. That would have been a nice backfill for Kellogg.

As for lineups, I want to see a Voltron package that looks like this-

G- Wingfield, 6'5"
F- NDour, 6'9"
F- Owens, 6'9"
F- Campbell, 6'8"
C- Monpremier, 6'10'

I think it's understood that these postings are just for fun right?
Here are my guesses:

PG Willis/ Taylor      Not sure who starts... Maybe different for each game depending on match ups...
SG Nehemias    Was 2nd team all-conference this year at Monroe... Can you guess who is the other, former 2nd team all-conference player on our team from Monroe? ;)
SG bench... How about Crute... Can hit the long ball and looks pretty athletic (I would imagine we miss Wingfield here)
SF Roddell    Named to his conference's all-tournament team this year. Scorer but not a good shooter according to his 3 pt stats but, we can always hope for improvement over the summer... (Looking at Borna's tag line)
SF Bench Harley    Evidently a good shooter with length and athletic ability... At the very least, he looks good during warm ups with some nice dunks... ;)
PF Ndour...  Healthy and hungry... Watch out MAC!
PF bench  Setty    Has improved over this past year... Maybe a bit more consistent shooting would help... (When wouldn't it help...)
C Campbell     Really came on at the end of the year. So excited to see what he can do as we move forward.
C Bench Tariq    I have no idea how his game will go offensively... But I think he can really help protect the rim.
C Bench Wadley    I think he and Tariq have close to the same body measurements.... 6'9" or 6'10" with huge 7' 4"+ wingspan... Keep working big fella!

We have a lot of talented bigs for sure... I could see people playing SF that I have listed as PF and people playing PF that I have listed at C... No idea but, it's exciting to think about!

Go Bobcats!

I dont understand why some get upset about speculation on a "discussion board." I can't speak for everyone else, but I like "discussing" Ohio Basketball. It is fun. Based on the lack of "fun" some people had this year winning games and playing in a tournament, maybe less posters than I thought enjoy being a fan.

The most exciting thing about next year's roster for me is the rotation options Christian will have. We have the bodies/talent to play some different styles as the coaching staff sees fit based on matchups.

Traditional 5 position rotation

PG: Stevie/Bean/Recruit
SG: Crute/Morillo/Bean?
SF: Wigginton/Harley/Setty?
PF: Ndour/Owens/Setty
C: Campbell/Wadly

We have options in the frontcourt. To me, Wadly is the only "center" on this roster. I listed Campbell there because I think he starts. How you exactly define Ndour and Campbell's positions is tough to say.

I think Wigginton starts. He is the type of player capable of making an impact immediately. I listed Crute as a starter but the SG is my biggest question at this point. Also, I didnt list Owens as a starter but I am a huge fan. He isn't coming here to sit. Offensively his strength right now is mostly in transition but the rest of his offensive game is close... Defensively and on the boards, he will make an impact from Day 1.

I mentioned rotational options... What if we play the 2-3 zone and use a hybrid lineup with 2 guards and 3 forwards...
G: Stevie/Bean
G: Crute/Wigginton
F: Owens/Setty
F: Ndour/Setty
C: Campbell/Wadly

We could sit in that when we get a lead and give teams nightmares with our size/length.
I dont buy that Owens or Ndour are 3's in the traditional sense but in the 2-3 defense, they could absolutely play as our wing defenders...
Pretty sure we played this system some this year with Campbell at Center..

Word, my friend.  Totally agree.  I never speculate about lineups this early.  All college rosters are in a state of flux any more.  We have open schollies, etc.  We don't even know what the roster will look like this summer.  Kids are shuffling among programs much more than ever.

All I know is that if bean and stevie both start we will probably have the shortest combo of PG/SG in the country.  I think that is a recipe for disaster defensively as neither seems to get after the opponent.  I have always said I like ndour at a 3.  He put the ball on the floor some and did ok.  But, I repeat, look at that assist to TO ratio.  That kid needs to learn to value possessions.  I like Campbell and hope he can go 30 mins.  Setty, still just not sure about.  I hate that shooting form but the guy works hard and relly hustles.  Mompremier...a work in progress, I hope he improves by leaps and bounds.  Don't really know about any of the others who didn't play this year or are coming in.  I'm like borna here, I won't stick my neck out to discuss a guy I have never seen play D1 basketball.

Ya had me a 2-3 Zone while pointing out our length (on paper anyway).  Seems to me that it could work really, really well against some opponents with the length on paper that they appear to have next year.

Finding a useful, ball handling option at guard is going to be crucial to success for next year.

You think bean and stevie up top in a 2-3 zone would be considered "length"?  I agree about the 3 bigggs though!

There are shorter for sure ...that BOston Terriers team I just watched is nowhere near their listed 6 foot, 5'9 and 5'10 and they play 3 guards and 2 forwards with no true center. Your point is well taken though. 5 '10 ish to 6 foot SG's are every opposing coach's dream mismatch. 6'5 sg's are their nightmares. I was amazed looking at UCLA this year....they are longggggg.

SOmewhere up above someone mentioned improved shooters. AMazing what happens when you change coaches and the new one knows how to teach shooting....Look across the stat line and see what off season work will do for ya.

Season GP MPG PPG FG% 3FG% FT% APG RPG BPG SPG
2013-14 36 33.2 14.6 48.0 48.3 73.7 6.5 8.8 0.8 1.8
2012-13 35 29.9 9.7 41.6 21.1 73.5 3.5 8.6 0.9 1.8

Looked at this guy last night and was amazed by his progress in the off season.

Any effect on our o-fensive production when we play the 'dream' zone defense?   Could be the rule of watch out getting what you ask for.

Starters

PG - Taylor
SG - Morillo-Lajara
SF - Wigginton
PF - Ndour
C - Campbell

Bench

PG - Bean
SG - Crute
SF - Harley/Setty
PF - Owens/Setty
C - Mompremier

I think our last 2 schollies go to a PG and a Wing player.  I am hoping that both are freshmen and can redshirt so they are ready to contribute after Taylor and Bean graduate.

I don't believe ball handling will be an issue at all next year, as Taylor and Bean have shown they can handle the ball and Crute and Morillo-Lajara are both reportedly able to play the point.  We should have plenty of length from the 2 through 5 spots.  Rebounding should be a strength with the big guys we will have and the length we will have on the wings.

Shooting appears to be one of the areas for concern.  Reports are that Crute and Harley can both stroke it, so if this ends up being the rotation, the 2nd unit would have 3 shooters along with Bean.  This may leave the 1st unit lacking shooters, so maybe switch Morillo-Lajara and Crute.

I do love the combination of returning players we have and what I have read about the newcomers.  If there is one thing that is safe to say, it is that next year will be fun to watch!

Best post I have read on the subject.  The only thing I would add is one might be a transfer with 3 years left, so it's almost the same thing.
