Wow, anyone see this latest article from good old Elton.  Still trying to figure out if I just misunderstood him, or if this guy really hates us for some reason.

3. Ohio University fans seem to be quite bitter over the departure of former head coach Jim Christian to Boston College -- a jump from the MAC to the ACC, or, in educational terms, from OU to the Ivy League -- yet somehow see that as a snub. Fact is, Christian got the Bobcats a share of their first regular-season MAC titles in 19 years, and a pair of postseason tournament wins.

4. New OU coach Saul Phillips seems to pacify the glib-meter for Bobcat fans as the former North Dakota State head coach appears to be more like former OU coach John Groce, with his easy banter. He also brings NCAA Tournament experience as Phillips led NDSU to the NCAA Tournament 2014 and upset Oklahoma before falling to San Diego State.

Well, he obviously spends time on this message board.  Nice way to get leads on stories Elton.

Danny's Knee--you seriously need to get a grip, sir! I think Elton was out of line to a degree in what he wrote, but your response is over the top, isn't it?

I'm excited about Saul, but to support him, we don't have to spew hate at Christian. The man had an opportunity to better himself. Only a fool would have turned that offer down. Doesn't mean he thought Athens wasn't good enough for him.

49-22 and share of a regular season conference title...pretty good for a guy "in over his head."

+1

I fail to comprehend all the animosity and dislike for what JC did here.

JC triples his compensation just as Saul is doing ... I doubt if they are trashing Saul on the NDSU site. And probably 100% of the posters here would do exactly the same thing as JC or Saul if their respective careers presented such an opportunity --- both financially and in a more prestigious situation.

Gonna be interesting to see the quotes in a few years when Saul leaves.  The guy better win or the haters will be out.  You don't have to like JC but he left the program in good shape.  Like all, I wish he had continued the NCAA appearance thing but bottom line is the year before a lot of things went our way.  We were, after all, the #7 seed in the MAC tournament I believe so it isn't like we set the world on fire.

Besides, everyone on this board would take a move up and triple to the salary if they had the chance.  Get over it.  He wasn't the first to leave OHIO and he won't be the last.

JC left the program in great shape, except for not recruiting a PG so we'll have to start a true freshman in 2015 and the part where he was handed the keys to a Ferrari and never got it out of second gear. And the part where our starting center quit before the post season. and the part where our 4 star recruit bailed. but other than that he left the program in great shape.

And you're right, we were "the #7 seed" in the 2012 MAC Tournament, if by #7 seed you mean the #3 seed. Because Ohio was definitely the #3 seed in 2012. Funny how your point of view knocks down a team that had the best start in program history, had the most prolific offense ever, and went into the tournament with more wins than any other team in the MAC down to a team that barely qualified for a home game and no bye to Cleveland.

Well the positive here is that Ohio is getting mentions in Cleveland on the last day of the season with UConn & UK.  Other MAC schools (even the NEOH favs) aren't getting that.

On the negative side, the mention is this:

MAC quality program = OU quality academics
ACC failing program = IVY League quality academics

While they don't seemingly equate, I think what he is saying is that the ACC is the best of the best in and OU is a hapless, also-ran that has been passed by others that were seemingly inferior, and can't seem to get it's crap together to get out of the mess it made for itself.  Oh but look at it's twin, soooo successful.  Hangs out with the neighborhood kids on weeknights for a month and then gets an invite to the rich kid party (cause there just weren't enough rich kids that could come).  Remember when that happened once?

The MAC. Putting it's nose in the carton and smelling spoiled milk since 1999, and drinking it anyway.

JC could just as easily have pulled a Knorr and turned a quality team into sh*t.  But he kept a winning tradition alive even after losing the core of the Sweet 16 team and facing an ungodly number of injuries.  It's natural to feel like the jilted girlfriend at this point, but we have a new coach with a promise of even better things to come.  Time to move on guys.

WRONG !! .... he took over Groce's sweet 16 team and returned the entire team !!

So...why couldn't Groce win a MAC regular season title with that loaded squad?

I'd much rather have a sweet 16 team than a MAC title any day.

Who wouldn't? But I think his point was that the team more often than not didn't play like a Sweet 16 team. One play different and Ohio would have been in the CIT instead of the Sweet 16.

yes, that's how I would describe a #7 seed. Ohio was not a #7 seed. Re-read my post.
