Anyone remember her?  Played for the Bobcats in the late 90s and I believe hails from Pike County.  She's the new head coach at the University of Minnesota.

I f I recall correctly, she had (or maybe still has) the most career points  by a high school female in Ohio.

Beaver Eastern.  She played about the same time as the greatest high school player to come out of Ohio - Katie Smith.

Marlene was an OSU transfer to Ohio I believe. I think she holds the OU women's record for points in a game (41).

I really hope you are joking. Maybe and a big maybe Katie Smith is the greatest female high school basketball player. I think what Lebron did it at SVSM is far more impressive and there are bunch more I could list.

In one of those precrash threads someone here was talking about getting her here to OHIO. Congrats to her on moving to the BIG.

Saw Balls former coach brenda Freese who moved to Minny and then Maryland got taken apart last night in the womens FF. Odd that Minny is not a destination job on the women's side so much. Hope she does well ......

There's a certain OU alum that ranks higher than Lebron in all-time Ohio HS scoring...

I said player when I should have said athlete about Katie Smith.  1st team all state in volleyball, basketball and she won the state track meet in the shot and the discuss.  College All American at Ohio State and the career scoring leader in professional women's basketball history not to mention 3 Olympic gold medals.  As far as basketball, I wasn't kidding on the female side.

Hence the "bunch more I could list" Lebron seemed the most obvious. Jay Burson was also a choice. I wasn't saying Lebron was the greatest OHSAA history but had a better career then Katie Smith.

There are other female players that could contend for the title as greatest female ever but I don't have the energy to argue with Alan over the local girl. Especially when he quickly went to her accomplishments in the college and Olympic levels.

From my experience, when one doesn't have the energy, one generally doesn't have an argument (now I'm sounding like my friend Monroe).  All I'm stating is one person's opinion and in the 35 years I've been in Athens and involved in schools around the state, Katie Smith is the best female athlete I've seen come out of Ohio.  Her career accomplishments give support to that argument.  She has been an all-star at every level.

You know what they say about opinions. All I know is Theresa Yingling was one hell of a basketball player and so was Tamika Williams. Williams did win the parade national player of the year. I am well aware of Ms. Smith's accomplishments but their are plenty of fine female players come from Ohio.

Katie Smith is number 1, not even close. I did enjoy watching Marlene play at Ohio. She was quite the gunner and if memory serves me right transferred along with a post player from tOSU.

Worked with her Dad.  Scored a lot of points.  State leader at 3514.  526 ahead of second.  First with 13 three's in a game.    Career 42% 3 pt shooter.  Fourth for most and sixth for most 3 pt in season, 102 & 97.  Third for most 3 pts in career 317.   Third for most points in a game 69.   Second, third and sixth for most points in a season.    521 career steals for seventh in state.  She was a scoring machine,  enjoyed watching her in high school and at Ohio.  Jon Diebler  holds boys record at 3208.  LeBron at 2646

I saw her play multiple times in high school before she got to Athens and a few times in Athens.  I also remember her and Katie Smith as young college players losing to Sheryl Swoops and Texas Tech in the National Championship game before she transferred to Athens and her contending in the annual 3-point contest on ESPN during the final four for us her senior year in college.  She was a scoring machine in high school.  When I was in High School my school has won the vast majority of women's basketball conference titles in the conference's history.  My senior year in high school was Stollings' Junior year.  My school and her's were co-champs that year.  I was in Athens the next year but I heard a story from my little brother who followed me to Athens the next year.  My school had already lost an away game to Stolling's team and late in the year needed to defend the home court against Stollings' team her senior year to keep a long string of conference titles going.  I can't remember the precise details but our ladies were winning something like 21-17 at the end of the first quarter then my brother said Stollings hit a three point shot on each of her first 6 or 7 possessions in the second quarter.  She just wen't off and won that game on her own.

Hindsight is 20/20 but its a shame that she was never offered the job here early in her coaching career.

If you count HS girls in there as well there are two OU alums that outscored him.  Stollings is the all-time leader by over 500 points.  Both Stollings and Ford have gone on to be successful D1 coaches.
