I think Ohio Athletics owes a lot of Brad Bates. Not only did he murder most of Miami's sports while in Oxford, he essentially gave us half a million dollars to go get one of the biggest rising starts in the basketball coaching profession while simultaneously disheartening his own fan base.

Thanks, Brad Bates. You're the gift that keeps on giving.

Well, that's what happens when you drink the water in Oxford.

Now that's funny.  How'd he get that B.C. job anyway?  Off hockey alone?

Boston College is doing an excellent job of creating blessings in disguise for MAC schools these days.

Pretty unpleasant bunch over there.

It is like that at a lot of Big 5 conference schools.  The UMD message board is pretty much unreadable at times.

Love their gifs.

They really do not like Bates or Christian. Maybe a bit unrealistic about where they fit in the pecking order but they are candid.

Profanity is unchecked.....wow. Been reading them for a few days now. Very interesting.

Echo Drags feeling regarding his dismantling of the Miami programs and now relieiving us of Big Jim.

I'm tempted to post this thread over on eagleoutsider.com. They really aren't happy with either Bates or Christian. That said, if this message board was as classless as that one, I wouldn't be posting this here now.

Probably wouldn't make a difference what is said here on BA; but I gotta ask myself if I was JC or BB, would I ever care about scheduling the Bobcats?

As for JC, never met him on the caravan and only saw him coach, never heard a radio show.  But two things jump out to me.  He has an excellent taste in women, he married a Bobcat.  In two years he brought in N'Dour, Campbell and Wingfield--perhaps a few new faces for this years team as well.

This past season, I'll argue that JC did a stellar job with the thin talent he inherited and the talent be acquired.  Big point is that no other MAC east team had to play the two best teams in the MAC twice--how might two different opponents effected the MAC seating in Cleveland?  Had OHIO received the by to Cleveland and somehow made it the dance, you guys would still be bitching that Cuse took OHIO down and JC was still winless in the NCAA.  He didn't break Riic's leg and he didn't wear out TJ; he didn't take time from Stevie, he didn't red shirt DJ because he wanted to.  Several really exciting games this season and a couple of extra games in a third class tournament. Given all that, JC is a winner.

Best wishes to the old and the NEW.

I am really excited for Saul Ball, but I still wouldn't say I'm happy that Christian LEFT. He was building something here, and if Tariq ends up leaving, it's hard to say we came out "ahead" in this whole equation.

I felt so much better about the future when the season ended and I thought Wingfield was healthy and Tariq was coming. Anything extra Saul brings to the equation might not be measurable for a couple of years, I'd guess.

Anyway, best wishes to Saul… and to JC. I hold nothing against him for taking a huge pay increase.
