I love this kind of continuity in a basketball program.  Hopefully, in the future, we will see this kind of thing happening with Ohio, NDSU, Wisconsin and Nebraska--rather than having to start from scratch every time we have a new hire as head coach. 

Thoughts?

Seems to be a similar model to what happens at NIU from a football perspective.

I really thought when we hired Groce that Thad Matta was going to start sending his assistants every few years to Athens. I figured he was the one who told Groce to take the OU job and assumed Boals would be next. It would've been a great draw for assistants. Do your thing, move onto Athens, get a bigger job. Like a success conveyor belt.

Clearly, I got that one wrong.

Looks like NDSU has got the formula down moving ops guys up the bench as the next guy moves in. Miles went out west to CO then over to NE. Saul moved over....now the asst moves up. The Bizon Way.

Butler had that going on for a while under Collier. They have Shrewsbury down in Alabama as he realized Brad was not leaving....so he takes the job and Darnell goes with him instead of moving up the bench. Brad leaves and Collier fills with family....Brandon Miller....and so it goes. BTW ...SHrews took Nored out of a coaching job at Brownsburg HS (mavunga/ Hayward) down to AL with him and Archery. I think they will do the same thing as Micah moves on.... Zach Hahn is coaching at Ben Davis but I suspect it is not too long before he moves over to the Butler bench. 

I have thought that is how OHIO should be grooming coaches and propogating assts. Saul seems like the guy who could put that in place..... or he could be the next Mark Few and just keep taking us to ships while burying the rest of the conference.

Only a few schools at the mid major level have been effective at producing high end assistants. Under TOS, JG, JC Ohio has done a solid job of it. They just moved onto different schools instead of to lead Ohio. The A10 schools that promote from within start the guy at 400,000 and move him up to the top tier (800-900k) in pay once he does something of significance in the NCAAs. Its a good model because A10 coaches know they'll get that bump if they win. Not enough schools in the MAC perform in basketball to force up the salaries. JG would be a lone exception if he stayed.

Which A10 schools are you talking about assistants moving up? I think I am reading that you are moving an assistant up and then paying him more once he wins.
