Per Jason Arkley, Owens, Morillo and Wigginton have all requested and been granted release from their NLIs from Ohio. Kendall Crute remains committed "100%". Ohio has 5 scholarships immediately open for next year and 3 more will open at the end of 2015 when Taylor, NDour and Willis graduate. This team will be full of Phillips' players in short order.

Best of luck to the recruits on their future endeavors.

I agree with letting the new guy put his stamp on this.  I hope evening out classes is done with 4-yr transfer student-athletes/ 4 yr recruits vs. JUCO's.

This is good news IMHO and the great "Will They Or Won't They Decommit" Watch of 2014 is over!  Thank goodness!   It's like ripping the band aid off-get it over with and move on.  The best of luck (seriously) to the 3 young men in their future endeavors.

Like others have said, I blame neither the former recruits for decommitting nor do I blame JC.  These guys never agreed to play for Coach Phillips.  Besides, Coach Phillips' recruits will do the exact same thing to Ohio in 8 years when his daughter graduates from Athens High and he leaves to take the Univ. Of Wisconsin job.

Bye, gone, forgotten.  There is a reason they're not coming.  Either the current coach didn't want them and told them so or they were coming here for reasons not consistent with what many of us think playing for OU should be.  Not going to lose any sleep over recruits of a former coach not coming to OU.

I'll take these young men at their word and if in fact they were connected to Ohio by Coach Stewart who primarily recruited them (especially the JUCO's), then I fully respect their wishing to attend UT-Martin next season.

In my opinion we kept the most important player. A player who can play the point and hit shots

With what SP said about wanting 4 or 5 year guys, any chance he told the JUCO kids to go elsewhere?

I am pleased to have Kendall Crute as a Bobcat as he truly seems by all accounts to be excited about his opportunity.  I am totally on board with an emphasis on 4 year players even if it means a bit of rebuilding for a couple of years. This fits into the goal of "Saul for the Long Haul".

interesting comment by Owens' AAU coach on twitter, a Bobcat fan asked him if Owens would follow JC to BC and he said "I can guarantee that JC is not an option. The way Coaches exit, has much to do with, how they view the situation."

That hypothetical roster is loaded at least an elite 8 team there but I'd rather Ohio be in the conversation with these types of players than not. Now Phillips is here and he can begin to build something special were the next 5-10 elite players wont be leaving but staying and winning MAC titles.

I assume there will be a lot of people that see this as "sky is falling" but I see it differently. The first real Phillips class will be able to see a path to playing time. That is how you get a kid like cooper or fears to come here even when they have offers from "bigger" schools. Kids want to see that they can get on the floor and be a star like they were in HS.

Yup. Try to win as many games as you can next year ( I think the group coming back can win 18 games in the regular season), but clear the deck for the future and make space for a recruiting class that can step in two years from now and play right away.

24 hours later Wigginton is a Buffalo Bull. He said he left Ohio because of the coaching change, when asked why he chose Buffalo he said- "The reason why I chose this school is because the coaches are players with experience and they know what it takes to get to the higher levels,” Wigginton said of Buffalo. “And they will push you till you reach your highest potential."

So Hurley's ability to get to "a higher level" as a player is more important than his ability to get there as a coach, or Buffalo to get there as a program? You picked Hurley's Dukie days over a coach and a program with actual next level success? lol, best of luck in your future endeavors.

Did they not include any restrictions when releasing them from the NLI? It's ridiculous that the rest of the MAC wasn't restricted.

Whatever. I hope we go 4-0 (or more) against them the next two seasons.

It will be interesting to see where all 3 wind up and then watch their performance. We may be surprised and find that they weren't as good as we thought when they asked out of their LOI.
I believe many players opt out cause it seems to be the trend today.  They may feel they are better then they really are after their senior year and can move up to a higher level program.
If they are truely opting out due to the coaching change and they don't follow that coach to his next job is there really any advantage to them not fulfilling their LOI? After all, what is the real difference, they will still need to have a new coach one way or the other right?

I think Wigginton will do well at Buffalo.

I am not surprised we lost 3/4 of JC's recruits... That is just how these coaching changes play out... To be expected.

However, I am a bit surprised we didn't tag the kids with a "no MAC schools" restriction. Or is that only common with kids transferring vs. kids released from NLI's?

OHIO will be OK. This program has a lot to sell to prospective hoops players. Crute is a nice start to the class. Timeline is shorter but we will find some players.

I think we will find out these guys are high MAC level players no matter how many stars or how enamored we were with them when they were"OUr" recruits.  Seriously doubt any are bound for a top ten team.

According to Scout.com, Tariq's list is now Tennesee, Seton Hall, Dayton, Rhode Island, Washington, UT Martin, UNLV, Kansas State & Temple

Interesting to see UT Martin on the list with a bunch of bigger schools. UT Martin is where Anthony Stewart ended up.
