It is amazing to me that there are still Marshall fans thinking the head men's basketball coach there is a better job than it is here.

It is amazing to me that Jeff Boals is not camped out in Huntington, waiting for his press conference to announce his arrival.   The writing is on the wall......he needs head coaching experience before he is going to be seriously considered for a high, mid major head coaching position.  He needs to roll up his sleeves at Marshall, or someplace comparable, and get after it.  Let's see what he can accomplish in the "captains chair.".

Not necessarily. Maybe he's happy where he is. Maybe he's waiting for the exact right spot. I can think of a few assistants who waited a long time to move up to the head spot.

They aren't waiting on Mike D'Antoni to make a decision are they?

According to the information in this article, I'd guess that Marshall will be paying about the same as Ohio when they hire a new coach.

Also, it appears they are also looking at low to mid major head coaches.

If Boals wants to be a head coach, it appears he will have to set his sights lower for his entry level position.

I think what this hire shows is that the people concerned that football was sucking up too many of OHIO's basketball resources have little reason for worry. It looks like the school is able to put commitment behind both sports and that they feel the payoff is there in the long run. Just look at how much we're paying and how Marshall (whose fans often tout the 'big money' that comes from Conference USA) may not be able to match our payday.

True, but I'm guessing Marshall will be able to match what we are paying Saul or maybe even go a little higher. I think they realize they can't miss on this hire like they did on Herrion. They desperately want to have a strong basketball program.

It is kinda nice to see them squirming a little bit after our hiring of Phillips, though.

Looks like Chuck thinks it will be Murray Bartow.  Seems to be a pretty "Muh" hire to me.

Here's a question:  How much of an "upgrade" is Marshall from EKU for Neubauer, Chuck's favorite candidate?

Wait, are you saying that it's "unacceptable" that Ohio hired Saul?

I think Jeff really liked W VA ..... he is a Belein disciple from back when ... followed him to WVa. When I talked to him he talked glowingly of being in the state and the mountains.

On a professional note I think the situation is a good one and pays about double the OVC. He has done well down there but I am pretty sure he sees a cap on what he can get done.

Unacceptable for a MAC school to pay more than a school in an obviously superior league like CUSA.  UNACCEPTABLE, I tell ya!!

Actually, this is a well written article.  Good stuff.

Hmm... Sounds like he thinks Marshall's efforts to get a new coach been, um, unacceptable.

Charlotte or App. State would had been a strong, progressive move by the conference to move into emerging, growing markets.

Based on where they're starting, I really think C-USA has more upside than the MAC. But it will be a work in progress for several years. No real reason that Marshall shouldn't dominate this conference for several years until the new programs get their feet on the ground.

Get this.  They had 14,000 last year.  And they sell tickets at $10 a pop, which includes admission to a baseball game.  Students get in free.

Amazing.  Chuck Landon made a reference to Ohio without a demeaning putdown.

Maybe he's at least seeing the light a little that we're not greatly inferior to Marshall.

Can only assume the snarky commentary was cut due to space constraints.

Agree totally.  I have to remind myself that Norther Illinois was in a BCS bowl recently.  And Ohio in the Sweet 16.  But, it still feels like the MAC is being left behind a bit.

I think he was clear that his opinion was that for Ohio to be able to move in 36 hours, while Marshall hadn't yet made it's move after 25 days wasn't "acceptable", nor was it "acceptable" for Ohio to be offering more than Marshall. While it's true that he didn't criticize Ohio, his tone was clear, he expects Marshall to always be better than Ohio

Its now been 30 days since Marshall began looking for a men's basketball coach. Marshall fans tend to think its going to be the Laker's coach, but what if it isn't? Would not want to be in limbo like that for that long.
