Since Tariq is still under an LOI, I imagine other coaches are currently unable to contact him. Here's what that may mean. Interestingly, yesterday started the most recent 'Quiet Period' in recruiting. The last 'Recruiting Period' of the 2014 evaluation year ended on Wednesday. I'm not sure that really means much, but from April 24-July 5, we are in the Quiet Period. That means:
  • Quiet Period:
During this time a college coach cannot watch you compete at any location. It is allowed for the college coach to make in-person contact with you or your legal guardians if it occurs on the coach's campus. The coach can still make telephone calls to you or your legal guardians, and you can make visits to college campuses during this time.

There are some evaluation periods if he's playing some sort of summer ball between now and then, but it seems like the heavy recruiting and visiting homes is no longer allowed. However, I guess there are loopholes if the student takes an unofficial visit to a campus and just happens to meet with the coach there. That's the only thing I could see still available to sit down one-on-one with a coach.

Officially released from his LOI. We now stand at 3 open scholys with the potential for two more.

We lost recruits when Groce left too. It happens.

I would like to see an official press release but I am glad this issue is finally put to rest. Hopefully everybody else stays. There are plenty of opportunities still available. Saul has some work cut out for him.

Per Arkley, Crute last remaining recruit to not ask out of NLI.  The gift of JC keeps on giving.

This is the way it happens in Div. I college athletics. I can't understand for the life of me why this would surprise anybody or why we should hate on JC because of this. It's the nature of the beast.

It also doesn't mean that these guys won't end up at Ohio. Their recruitment is just being reopened.

so, how likely is it that we get the guys the second time around? I give us less than 25% of a chance of getting even one if them.

Jeff is spot on with his comments.  This is what happens to today's recruits when coaches make a move.  It happened with Groce, it happened with JC, and will happen to programs everywhere.  As Jeff correctly pointed out, there is no reason to "hate" on JC.  This is just the nature of college basketball.  Realize it, understand it and move on guys.
I was hoping that maybe Saul could gain some ground with our recruits, and possible convince one or two of them to still come to Ohio, but it doesnt look like that is going to happen.   I hope that I am wrong and maybe we are still in the running for some of these kids, but if we aren't able to recruit any of the three, then lets move on !

9704, I agree that it could be argued that JC pursued a rather risky recruiting strategy. This recruiting class is scattered geographically and the recruiting ties were with certain assistants who are no longer in the program. Some truth to your contention that this put us at risk of having a depleted roster if JC left.

Saul Phillips will establish a different recruiting strategy that likely will leave the roster in good shape if and when Coach Phillips accepts another job. And I wouldn't be surprised if our next coach comes from within our own staff, which will also help with roster continuity.

You mean like this past year winning the 3rd most games in history? And with a beat up injured squad? Yep, I have to agree.

If any of the wayward three end up at BC, I'll not be happy.  Otherwise, I'll give JC
a pass.  And, I'm sure JC is very much afraid of incurring my wrath and indignation.

No disrespect, Jeff, and I don't follow such things closely... but I can't imagine too many recruits ask out of a NLI, then re-commit to that same school. If they've all met with Saul and still asked out, we're dead to them.

It does happen everywhere. I saw today that Horford from Michigan is transferring to Florida for his senior year. How crazy is that? He would have certainly been a big factor for them with McGary leaving. He won't see the floor much at Florida. Go figure.

Isn't he the player who just landed a one year suspension for failing a drug test at Michigan? If so that makes perfect sense.

McGary failed the drug test not Horford.

Can we get over this "most in program history" pr bs.  When you play 9 million games compared to years gone by, you're going to win more games.

+1  I've been preaching this gospel for several years on here and on the football forum.  The only true comparisons with Bobcats of yore and their coaches is either a per game basis or a percentage basis.  Number of wins, total points, total yards are meaningless unless put into the context of the number of games/season.

And considering some of his competition, that is pretty damned impressive.

Every lecture I go to the past 3 years the speaker is required to fully disclose any link he has to any person or product. Seems like Jerry should be adopting one of those " I must make full disclosure of my relationship" statements I hear all the lecturers making.

I always wondered but never asked if Alan was the owner of Swanky's Bar that was on Court Street in the 1908's.  I never went in there so I did not know if Alan was tending the bar.

I may be approaching 60, but come on 86, you went in there in the 1908's?  No affiliation with Swanky's and I only remember going in there once when I was in graduate school.  One of our RA's was on the Pop Concert committee and he got us to act as the "road crew" for a McGuffey Lane concert in the old Baker Center ballroom.  After the show and few shots of Jack Daniels with the band in the alley behind Baker, we all went to Swanky's.  Memorable night to say the least.

And come on Andrew, if OCF agrees with one of my posts even a repetitive one, there must be some validity to it.
