Hawkins reminds me of O'Shea here and Witherspoon at Buffalo. All 3 were just solid of enough to pump out decent teams consistently but none really showed any ability to move their programs from good to great. Worse yet, all seemed like they were capable of putting out one team that is good enough to fool you into thinking they are legit coaches.
Ohio and Buffalo were able to get out of their "good" situations and I believe both are better positioned to win in the mid-long term because of it. WMU gets "stuck" with Hawkins. If I am a WMU, I am not particularly excited... Can WMU show staying power next year? IMO, they fall off big. Tava is a nice player, but I don't believe he has the size to control the post by himself and I don't see any other size in the wings at WMU to help him out. Add in loses like Brown and I think WMU faithful will be fearful about having Hawkins wrapped up by this time next year.
