Interesting list - subjective of course.  Down to final 9, with Calipari, Pitino, Self, Izzo, K, Donovan, Bo Ryan, Beilein and Gregg Marshall still to come (in some order or another).  Not sure if I'm missing anyone.  Dambrot on the "just miss list."  Groce, Christian, Saul, not mentioned.

And some of this list I'd hotly debate.  To say that Tony Bennett is ahead of Mark Few, Mick Cronin, Thad Matta, or Jay Wright is a bit of a stretch to me.  And I'm not sure that Richard Pitino is yet deserving of inclusion ahead of a few guys on the "just missed" list.

I don't follow all of college basketball enough to try and rate one particular coach ahead of another particular coach.  With that said, I would feel that factoring the mess Tony Bennett inherited at UVA, he is deserving of being ranked somewhere in the top 20 coaches.  He is winning games with mid-level Rival recruits and is building a program based on 4-5 year student athletes.

On a personal note, my friends 4th grade grandson who attended a Tony Bennett basketball camp was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and is facing a full year of treatment with a very uncertain future.  Bennett has managed to visit the young man three times in Richmond the past two months and keeps in constant contact with the family.

With the small college Wisconsin and University of Wisconsin connections, in addition to being a "people person", Tony Bennett reminds me a bit of Saul Phillips, just a bit more reserved in media interviews.  Bennett just signed a 7-Year extension.

Maintaining is harder than building, something these sort of lists always seem to ignore.

Lists are lists. ICK. Someone has to justify their existence and opinion. No way JT3 even makes a list in my world....JMHO. I'll leave it at that.

what? JT3 is 2-5 vs double digit seeds in his last 5 NCAA tournament appearances, how can you not be impressed?

listening to the radio replay of JT2 calling the Ohio v Gtown game is one of the great joys of my adult life.
