I think you could predict the whole arrangement was going to end bad at some point.

I do too. Hate to see potential wasted - in sports or life.

I sat next to his family and chatted with them at a game once. Though that peripheral and very minor contact is the extent of my knowledge of the kid, I wish him the best. The family seemed like good people, and I hope he gets it together. He had a lot of raw talent, and it's a shame to see it wasted.

Hate to see this happen. Turk actually had a good season on the court last year.

this follow up tweet from Arkley about TG blows my mind-

"TyQuane Goard remains the only Ohio hoops player I've ever run across who asked his coaching staff if he HAD to attend MAC tournament"

This kid is on a team that has a good chance to earn a bid to the NCAA tournament and he wants to stay at home? Why is he even playing basketball?

If memory serves me well, there was an academic reason why he asked if he had to attend the MAC Tournament. I thought the story was he was worried about upcoming finals and wanted to stay behind to focus on studies. Groce felt that would pose a distraction to the rest of the team. Whether Goard quit or Groce officially gave him the boot is unknown to me.

That tweet is based largely on hearsay and not really appropriate for a beat reporter to throw out there, IMO. Did he ask Goard if it were true? I doubt it - he's just repeating what the coaching staff told him...which in itself was inappropriate. I was told that the situation was quite different - that Goard wanted to attend a class and travel to Cleveland a day late.

do you know for sure that Akeley's tweet is based only on hearsay? is it really inappropriate to share info about a former player two and half years after the fact? do you know for sure that Arkley didn't speak to Goard directly? if not, do you know for sure that Arkley heard it from the coaching staff? how is Arkley's claim that Goard asked if his attendance in Cleveland was mandatory different from your claim that he asked if could have an option of attending at his own convenience? how do we know that your claims are not mostly hearsay? what is Ebola? where do babies come from? so many questions..

That does put it in a different perspective. Journalism by twitter is not really journalism. Using it to gather information you can confirm with real sources is one thing, using it to disseminate rumors is quite another.

He was in Groce's doghouse - and academics were one of the issues. Arkley (the tweeter here) interviewed Groce (so not hear say) about it back when it happened - on a thread about 100 pages back from here

Look up the definition of hearsay. Unless Arkley was there when it was said and/or both parties involved confirmed, then, well. And not sure how appropriate it was for Groce to tell a reporter about a private conversation between him and a player. Just seems mean spirited of Arkley to tweet that.
