Oct. 24, 2014

ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio athletics department will host a 'Bobcat Madness' event on Tuesday, Nov. 5, in conjunction with the start of the 2014-15 men's and women's basketball seasons and the football team's showdown against Mid-American Conference East Division rival Buffalo.

Gates open at the Convocation Center at 6 p.m. ET for the basketball portion of the event, which will run from 6:30-7:30 p.m. ET.

The basketball event will feature introductions of the men's and women's teams, the women's team challenging the student body to a three-point shooting contest, followed by a scrimmage by the men's team and a dunk contest.

Bobcat Student Park will be housed inside the Convo, with free food being served by Chick-fil-A, Domino's, Pita Pit and Gran Ranchero.

The football game will kick off at 8 p.m. ET, with Fireworks Night presented by Holzer Health System following the contest.

The first 1,000 students to attend both events will receive free replica jerseys.

I have just one other thought/suggestion on this: Put it 'live' on Ohiobobcats.com for those that can't attend the events. (Gawd, I wish I could!)

This may be tough to do, I'm sure the staff will already be spread very very thin. Might be a good way to get WOUB involved...

Perhaps. I do know Jim Christian was not a fan of these sort of things - you'll notice it disappeared once Groce left.

I have a class from 7:30-9:30 right across the street from both Peden and the Convo in Walter. They're just rubbing it in that I'll have to miss now.

We are one day away from basketball showing up on the "Upcoming Events" on the main page. This makes me happy.

I don't think Groce was a big supporter of this either. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Prior to Groce....the staffs toook the teams off to Boston to et tthem off campus during Halloween. When Groce got here he thought kids should be mature enough to be on campus and set curfews and expected kids abide by them and get back to their dorm rooms on time. Groce handled the kids with respect and set expectations. They did not let him down overtly. interesting transition from Rhodes and CO taking care of TOS's kids to Groces kids (who came in in a bunch). I think he id a good job involvin the program and the Ozone as well as integrAting the womens programs with RaNDALL in shooting ft's , drills and dshooting 3'a outright.

So, in other words, you came here to "play school" rather than "play basketball"?

Maybe the refs can call a safety against Buffalo during the dunk contest.

Everyone is in charge of their own decisions, their own learning, and their own path.

To paraphrase the NCAA commercial "most of us went pro in something other than sports fandom"
