March is approaching.

Looking at standings and potential matchups, I think Ohio is better off with a 6 seed instead of getting into the 4-5 game.

I was watching the EMU/BG game yesterday not sure who I wanted to win. I think the best scenario is us and BG getting into the top four. BG losing helps us get there, but knocks them back down. After CMU's dominant win over Western yesterday, I'm ready to say the Chippewas are not a fluke. And after their offseason mass exodus, coach Barbee should be a lock for Coach of the Year. That said, I don't buy CMU in Cleveland whereas BG has the capability to totally annihilate us.

Barbee will absolutely win coach of the year. Buffalo had a real shot at beating Akron yesterday. They couldn’t score in the last four minutes. I really believe that you have 5-6 teams that can win it all in Cleveland. If the MAC were just half-way decent, Akron would have at least 4 losses by now.

Goal remains the same.

Get healthy. Get hot. Make a run.

3pt shooting makes us capable of hanging with anyone. OU is #1 in 3pt made. 4th in %. #1 in fewest turnovers. Which makes us dangerous in the tournament.

I don’t think we’re a very good team, but our basement is pretty high. Guaranteed no one has OU scheduled as someone they want to see.

I think this is the first nobody wants to see Ohio in the MAC tournament of 2024. The Bobcat Attack tradition continues.

Got an alert from Zips Ticket Office that Tourney Tickets are now available to purchase--any word from OUr ticket office?

Zips early because they have officially punched their card and OHIO hasn't yet?

Something to consider: The MAC regular season champion hasn't won the tourney since 2019 (Buffalo, for the second year in a row). Toledo won the regular season each of the last three years, but couldn't even make it to the tourney final two of the three years (last year, when they lost by 15). The #2 seed (Kent) won last year, #4 (Akron) in 2022, and #5 (Ohio) in 2021.

Interesting data Graff, Thanks. That 7 seed success sure seems crazy especially without any championships. Must have been lots of 7s beating 2s then losing in the finals.

Anyone remember anything about the "1" in that 1-6 mark for the 13 seeds? Shiver....

The #7 seed info here is amazing. Never would I have thought that in a million years.

7 seeds have had uncanny success, but you also have to remember there was a period when top 4 got byes so there was a 7/10 first round matchup. Check how many wins 10 seeds have. Zip. 7s got a bunch of wins that way but still 5s and 6s played 11s and 12s in that format and 7s still performed better overall so there's something odd to it.

Talk about a very fun fact - Miami has not won a quarterfinal game since 2010.

2000. #13 CMU (5-22) beat #4 Akron (17-10) 75-73 at the JAR.

Central followed that up by playing #5 Marshall tight losing 58-56 in Cleveland.

That was Dan Hipsher era Akron led by Jami Bosley and Jimmal Ball.

CMU was led by David Webber.

A decent East team gets 7 seed, waxes crappy West team, plays West champ as 2 seed that wasn't the second-best team in the conference. Rinse, repeat.

This is a good point as well. The old East-West divisions and seeding certainly played a role.

Even though they've never won it, 7 seeds have reached the championship game 6 times, obviously going 0-6.

1990 #7 CMU lost to #1 Ball St
1991 #7 Toledo lost to #1 EMU
1996 #7 Toledo lost to #1 EMU
1998 #7 Miami lost to #4 EMU
2005 #7 Buffalo lost to #4 Ohio (Leon Williams tip-in says "What is Buffalo sucks?")
2006 #7 Toledo lost to #1 Kent St

I actually thought it was us versus CMU in the Convo in 2002. Also led by David Weber. Maybe that was a 5/12 game?

Kind of amazing the same bad CMU team pulled off 2 ridiculous 1st round upsets in 3 years.

That was indeed a 5/12 matchup and they thumped us 65-56 in the Convo.

That whole CMU era was wild.

2000, #13 seed knocks off Akron, led by Soph David Webber
2001, #1 seed, lost in quarters to #8 Miami, led by Jr David Webber and Fr Chris Kaman
2002, #12 seed knocks of Ohio, led by Sr David Webber and Soph Chris Kaman
2003, #1 seed, Tournament champs, led by Jr Chris Kaman (left for NBA)
2004, #13 seed again.

Akron clinched a spot with their last win. Their ticket announcement probably coincided.

And once again, the Bobcats season comes down to Three Days in Cleveland....

How I dread those four words and love them at the same time....

Can't wait to fly in. Favorite basketball trip of mine every year.

The fact we're there and the stats above tell the story.....anything can happen.

Kent taking down Central in OT today helps our cause for locking up the 3 seed.

Based on likelihood of draws - I'm not sure this is a good thing.

I think the #4 seed will be the easiest path.

I'd much rather Miami and Akron than BG and Toledo.

NIU is up on Akron at the half. If they hold on, we are still mathematically alive for the 1!

Regardless of that game, NIU and EMU are eliminated after today. Ball State is a question mark. I don't know if there is any scenario that exists where they win a tie breaker with any combination of Kent, BG, and WMU.

I totally get this mindset. Bottom line…I think six schools can win this. I’m trying to go into Cleveland thinking that you just want the highest seed possible and don’t get too concerned about matchups, but I get it. And I don’t like the feeling of oh we are better off finishing fourth than third because of this or that. Hell...I even started this thread by saying we'd be better off finishing 6th than 4th or 5th. So I even talked myself into this thinking a few weeks ago....hahah.

Bottom line you still have to win three games in three days and you know that path is going to go through Toledo and Akron regardless.
