The bigger concerns regarding Boals is whether college basketball has reached college football's head-coach-leaves-for-top-assistant-job-and-more-pay situation. If so, I could see this happening to a lot of mid-major programs.
I don't think that's a concern at all.
I don't think there is any world where a current mid-major head coach is leaving for an assistant job at the college level.
College basketball is not college football.
I don't want to play any hypothetical games here, yes someone could say hey Eric Henderson you're a .500 head coach at South Dakota State, you make $300K.... do you wanna come be John Calipari's assistant? Yes. That is plausible. Is it likely? No.
Assistant coach salaries aren't as widely available, but just some quick googling - the highest paid assistant Orlando Antigua made $875K - under Calipari.
-Danny Manning looks like the 2nd highest I could find at $600,000.
-The top assistant at UNC, Brad Frederick: $264,899 (according to public record)
-Just read an article that said Diebler got a raise from $340K.
Boals spent so many years as an assistant you think theres a chance that he would go backwards for less pay? Or even somewhat hypothetically comparable pay?
