Couple less Bobcats in the Platinum seats then planned tonight. Took me 45 minutes to drive from Main St/270 interchange to 33/270 interchange - and 33 backed up not moving as far as I could see - so back home and for "virtual viewing"........heard there was a wreck on 33 at Canal Winchester.

Sucks - but will be interesting - watching a game at the Convo on my laptop - have not done that in a LONG time. At least it's a team we should beat handily - hopefully won't feel like I could have contributed by getting a 3 sec or such call from the refs w/my yelling! (get at least one of those a year)

A victory if it is to come wion't be so easy. Guard play is not impressive, passing is awful and attempts by inside bigs to dribble through crowds adds up to a 2 point lead at halftime.

Might be wishing Simmons was eligible this year. Does this team have a legitimate starting point guard? 0 assists at halftime from Stevie. Too inconsistent at the key position on the floor. Can't rely on Stevie to play 32 minutes a game, but don't have many other options.

OK, at what point am I allowed to be nervous here? About tonight's game? The season? You name it.

Bright side: Did we upgrade the production for the video stream? That looks like an HD-quality picture tonight. Much better than I remember.

Hard to make excuses for these guys anymore. No hustle.. They just act like they're too cool to play hard. I'm a diehard Bobcat and will continue to come and support this team, but it's going to be a looooong season if they keep playing like this.

21 points and 12 rebounds is indicative of regression?

Has to be one of the worst games I've seen in a long time. A small, bad team nearly beat us. They lost by more points to Hawaii (28), High Point (12-a low point), Valpo (13), & Central Michigan (32!). Out hustled, out played, out coached.

Their screens opened up baseline shots all night long with no correction.
Basic rule against a zone: it's pass-pass, not bounce-pass-bounce-pass.

We certainly have some talent but tonight there was no flow, no energy, no hands underneath the hoop, no smarts. 20 turnovers? Seriously.

Mo and an occasional Bean & Campbell saved us.

If you expected more than a .500 team you are allowed to be nervous right now.

That game was reminding me of Winthrop from a few years back until about the last 3-4 minutes last night. My goodness was that ugly. Top to bottom ugly. Missing wide open shots, horrible unforced turnovers, bricked free throws, no energy...about the only thing that went right was the W/L column. And we didn't deserve that W. I know the arena was emptier and the student presence was mostly gone, but that place was DEAD last night. That was probably Stevie's worst game as a Bobcat, and Bean was straight up out of control in the first 10-12 minutes of the game. He hit some big shots to keep us with them in the first half but those wildly out-of-control turnovers have got to stop. Where Stevie's head was last night I have no idea.

The obvious shooting woes continue to concern but nuances really bother. How are we treating screens? That is part of the scout.

what are their actions off the screen mandates what you do defensively off that screen. Where are the hedges? We all used the complain about DWash and KVK fouling out top while hedging hard on ball screens but NO hedge is sure to create mismatches with guards on bigs all season long or Opposing guards turning the corner for wide open shots down the lane. Screens on the wing or baseline have similar problems. It is of concern.

ST will find his shot. The frosh will get more comfy. bean will frustrate and redeem and the bigs will continue to quietly get better. Won't be a great year by our now heightened standards but we will know why. This is becoming a pretty astute fanbase with heightened expectations. I love it. Get behind this team.

I would keep an eye on the Ohio Bobcat TV YouTube channel. They should have something up soon (if not already).

Bad game, no reason to sugar coat it. Kudos to them for turning it on in the last 5 minutes to make it not close, but they played very poorly for 35 minutes.

- Way too many turnovers. Stevie & Bean just were not precise and smart with their passes. Not much of a concern, because they are seniors that we know should be fine.
- Stevie could not shoot at all tonight, either. Very rough night for him. Some were poor shots he should not have taken but mostly he just was off.
- The scary part is the big reason we won was 24 fouls on them (27 FTs for us) and 13 on us (14 FTs for them). Had that been flipped, I bet some would be griping about the refs.
- 4 games now where we start out pretty poorly. Wasn't this an issue last year as well? I don't know what the answer is, but I could use a hot start every now and then.
- Laster & Taylor were just fine, there were not the reason for the struggles.
- I heart Tony and hope his minutes are being limited due to injury concern, because based on merit and performance he should be starting and playing 30. He is very good with the ball in the paint for a sophomore.
- Ndour was awesome down the stretch.
- This team still has work to do, but I remain pleased with the newcomers and confident in the experienced players.

At one point during last night, we were tied to Arkansas freaking Pine Bluff with 5 minutes to go, AND down 21-0 to freaking Miami in football. That was a dark dark spot. Thankfully it turned out to be a pretty great finish for both.

Laster is just solid. I don't know any other way to put it. I think he had one silly turnover last night, but other than that, he had a pretty flawless evening. His stats won't necessarily jump off the page at you but he plays a smart, efficient game. Especially for a freshman. 10 points, 4 rebounds, an assist, and was 6/6 from the free throw line off the bench.

Not that anyone probably knows enough about Arkansas-Pine Bluff to realize it, but I think the Athens Messenger got the color wrong in the mascot name. They are the Golden Lions, not the White Lions.

100% agree. Mo is working his butt off from what I'm seeing. Only Ryan Taylor seems interested in getting him the ball.

With an atmosphere last night like 100% described, that is why teams should play in Tournaments as much as possible in DEC. Just not any HC advantage to playing at home with no students. I wonder what we paid those guys and some of the other teams we are bringing in? Use that money for traveling and playing better teams at neutral locations.

Agreed x100000000.

I understand not wanting to play a road game around Thanksgiving to keep coaches close to the family but COME ON don't schedule home games this weekend. The atmosphere is trash and last night the players looked about as interested in being their as the fans did.

I wont even start on football and basketball at the same time. Zero acceptable reason for that to happen. If the MAC is responsible, that changes nothing. Unacceptable.

...

I'm going to hold off on bashing the people bashing Ndour. I'm sticking to my guns that he is an unbelievable talent capable of carrying this team through key stretches of key games. He is averaging a double double and he hasn't even played well yet. Can you imagine what he is going to do if he has a good game?!?!?!!???
My biggest concern with him is keeping him in the game. Injuries aren't really easy to control. His foul trouble though, that IS concerning. He is VERY good defensively creating blocks and altering shots BUT we cannot afford for him to rack up fouls like he has.

This team has played very sloppy so far. We cannot do that against better opponents. I am optimistic the turnovers will decrease with more time in this offense. I still believe the shooting is there... We aren't shooting 2-20 from deep like we did vs FGCU much more this year..
