If you believe in good losses, and I do, this one was. Like the men in the afternoon, the women played their opponents even for the first 30 minutes before fading a bit down the stretch. Despite playing taller and much bigger players at every position, as well as an athletic, experienced, and well coached team, the Cats dug in, played solid defense all night, and even matched them on the boards. The offense played well at times too led by a gutsy effort from point guard Kat Yelle, withstanding the Pirates pressure defense, and being able to distribute the ball to the other starters- Black, Lampkins, Byard, and Baldwin, all having success at times scoring. But those were the only ones contributing on the offense end, with the others still catching up to the level of play and speed of the game a team like ECU can throw at you.

Good effort by Ohio who stood up to a good team. Hopefully they gained some confidence tonight knowing what they are capable of doing, and came away with a good learning experience that will advance their game.

P.S. Did anyone consider making this a doubleheader to allow followers of the men to get a chance to see the ladies? It was a good game to watch.

I miss the days of doubleheaders. They were standard practice in the early 90s and many came early to the women's games to get a good seat for the men's games.

Amazing what a turnaround this program has had already.

Same situation in the 80's. When I was there, if you wanted to sit in what is now the OZone, you had to show up prior to the Women's games. They had decent crowds for their games.

Saturday was my first women's game in several years. Sorry to be the kiss of death, ladies. ECU was a big, physical team. I thought our ladies played pretty tough with them.
