Overall, the MAC has had a pretty good start to the season, though Toledo and Akron missed chances at good wins last night. MAC teams are 35-13. Of course, there are wins against non-D-Is and other low-quality opponents, but MAC teams are mostly beating those kinds of opponents, which hasn't always been the case.

The only MAC losses so far are:
Kent State vs. 4-1 Yale
Buffalo at #1 Kentucky
Ohio at 5-0 FGCU
Akron vs. Miami (FL) and at Penn State
Miami vs. 3-1 Evansville and vs. 5-0 Northwestern
Western Michigan at 3-1 San Diego
Ball State at then-ranked Utah and at 2-3 IUPUI in OT
Toledo (only team with losing record) at #14 VCU, at 3-2 Oregon, vs. 4-2 Detroit

Akron's wins against South Carolina and USC standout as the best wins, but Buffalo was much better than anyone so far against Kentucky, Akron should have beat Penn State, Miami played Northwestern close, Ball State was in the game at Utah and Toledo was in it until late against VCU and Oregon.

I agree with all your points, Upsan. Good start to season by winning games vs other mid majors and low majors. Winning a few games vs high majors.

Most disappointing loss so far might be Toledo losing at home to Detroit.

Of course I'm biased but Yale has a very good returning team from last year's CIT runner-up. We saw them handle the Missouri Valley's SIU on Saturday.

I think Yale is a good team. I think all of the schools MAC foes have lost to have been good teams. Not a lot of great wins by the MAC so far, but MAC schools have beaten the teams they should beat, which has not been the case most years.

And then Toledo loses to 1-5 Oakland.

Upsan, you have jinxed the MAC. Ever since you started this thread, the league has been on a downward spiral. Hope they get it turned around right away.

Holmes hits a bucket as time expires to beat Detroit 64-63. A clock issue kills the Titans. BG tried to get the ball near half-court when a Detroit player steeped in front of a pass and appeared to step out at 1.7. Refs put 2.2 on the clock and that was the difference in Holmes getting a shot off.

NIU comes back from 21 down to beat Maine. WMU holds on against San Diego.

Akron hosts Bryant tonight. I believe Bryant will be without TOS who is tending to his dying mother.

UD coach McCallum and UD announcers claiming the Titans got "jobbed."

MAC goes 4-0 after the Birthday Boy puts the reverse jinx on.

Bobcat women are 5-0; check out a game. They are entertaining and play tough defense.

Obviously a big win for Eastern Michigan last night and a near-miss for BG. Sagarin has MAC East ranked 9th and West 12th, which has got to be the best the MAC has been in quite a few years.

1. Big 12, 2. Big Ten, 3. Big East, 4. ACC, 5. Pac 12, 6. SEC, 7. WCC, 8. A10, 9. MAC East, 10. AAC, 11. Mountain West, 12. MAC West, 13. Missouri Valley, 14. Colonial, 15. Horizon.

Ohio (2-3) and Miami (2-6) the only teams in the MAC below .500. Ohio ranked #213 overall (#184 predictor) in Sagarin despite losses to #44 FGCU, #87 St. Bonaventure and #95 Belmont.

I'm going to resume today the thread we devote to tracking Sagarin and RPI ratings for Ohio and the MAC.

yay

can you throw Kenpom rankings in there also? Seems closer to the old Sagarins and by this time of year has a decent predictability

So why do they rank the Mac east and west separately but every other conference together? Seems odd.

because the MAC divides its teams into divisions and most other conferences don't.

Another explanation is that miami sucks and this dis-associates a handful of schools from the suckage.

never miss an opp to 'so say us all.'
