I'm not sure if this was shared or mentioned in recent months, but I discovered this while searching about The Bronco's.

Maybe we can buy their old one. It's significantly better than what the Convo sports now. :-(

I agree. I don't feel like there is a "need" for a big HD video board. There is a need for a more visible scoreboard with important in game info as has been discussed on here at length.

That said, I'd be curious to know what the cost savings would be for this route. It might not be worth it.

I will respectfully disagree. I understand what you're saying, but the Convo does need a few things and a new scoreboard/video board makes a huge difference in my eyes. It makes the arena "pop" so to speak, and gives it more of a big-time look. Where it should be placed and how big is another matter.

As for where it should be placed, I assume we need 2 of these suckers, and I'd put them in the lightest green seats way up behind the baskets. I assume we still can't hang anything.

I agree, but we aren't going to eliminate seating so that idea is out of the question. I'm still surprised that with today's technology there isn't a light enough board that could be hung.

No matter how many times they're dispelled, these things never seem to die on this board. Purdue has had a scoreboard hanging for decades in the twin sister of the Convo. And it seems foolish to eliminate seating from the Convocation Center, which fills several times a year for... convocations! And on a good year, it fills once or twice for basketball games. Besides, why would you pay money to eliminate seating and provide boards in a less than optimal spot?

I disagree they're not optimal spots. Placed correctly, they can be viewed by anyone.

Old Cole Fieldhouse at Maryland. The renovation at Richmond where the screens are in the corners. Both seem great to me.

If it can hang from the ceiling I'm on board. But, I believe conventional wisdom right now is it cannot hang from the ceiling.

So, up in the nose bleed seats it goes. And, lets be honest, the Convo does not fill up once or twice a year for basketball games. More like once every few years. (Even plenty of empty seats for the Gary Trent celebration "sellout".) And, its not going to sell out. We do not schedule teams that draw non-conference crowds. We recently had a sweet 16 team and there were plenty of empty seats every game that year and the following year. Losing a few hundred ain't no thing.

But, hanging from the ceiling would be the best scenario.

What's the story behind why one can't be hung?

You guys must be right. The hanging board miracled itself up on the same kind of ceiling in the West Lafayette.

A four-sided hanging board is the standard of excellence. Two screens popped way up in the rafters is a distant second place.

All I need is the game and some music from the pep band. Everybody can get the stats on their smart phone.

Do we let troglodytes like that into the arena? ;-)

Sadly, the original point made by RJ may still stand.
