There are probably some things that are obvious, but in some cases, maybe some things are a bit unexpected, such as Ohio actually takes much better care of the basketball.

There's been an increase in pace. Ohio has seen a drop-off in offensive production, but a much bigger drop defensively.

Offensively
- Ohio's overall field goal percentage above average and not much worse than last year.
- Ohio doesn't shoot 3-pointers as well or as often as last year.
- Neither last year's or this year's team shoots many free throws.
- Neither team got too many offensive rebounds, but especially this year, there are few offensive boards.
- Ohio commits far fewer turnovers and gives up far fewer steals.
- Far fewer assists.

Defensively
- Opponents shoot an overall lower than average percentage, though Ohio's defense field goal percentage isn't as good as last year.
- Teams shoot the 3-pointer very well against Ohio, whereas last year, they shot very poorly.
- Ohio fouls fairly frequently and fouls high-percentage shooters, but Ohio also fouled quite a bit last year.
- Ohio is much improved and much above average at preventing offensive rebounds.
- Ohio blocks an average number of shots, but not quite as many as last year.
- One area of drop-off is a huge decrease in steals and forced turnovers.
- Our opponents' are not credited with many assists either.

The lack of turnovers doesn't surprise me. One of the things about quick ball movement (and getting it down low to the bigs) is that it can lead to turnovers but it will lead to much easier scores as well. Move the ball slowly and you end up with a contested shot. And I think the tempo is a result of shots early in the shot clock and the fact that our defense doesn't make the opponent work that hard in their possessions.

if you want to make yourself feel better, compare Ohio's performance this year to Marshall's. Marshall started the season beating Jacksonville St(rpi314) and Savannah St(rpi309). Since then they are 0-15 vs D1 competition and have an rpi of 323. Its been 68 days since their last win.

That's like my kid rationalizing his grades and academic progress with kids in Mississippi. "I do not care son, when your boss asks you this question are you gonna say "kids from mississippi don't know it either." ?" Performance should be graded relative to the top....not the bottom. Aspire.

This is always true, even though I agree with Borna on this one. I can root against, and laugh at Marshall every day. It never gets old for me...kinda like laughing at the Browns QB situation.
