I hate to put it on one guy who I don't think is a bad coach, but I find it hard not to point at the root of all our problems and blame on JC. He really screwed us over. He comes in with a team who returns every player from the sweet 16 run the year before and fails to make it back. Fair enough it's not easy to do especially when you switch systems but before he we can see his system and recruiting play out he leaves. We're in shambles with recruiting as well as with returning players. Who have no IQ because they have not stuck with a system through their career here. Every year they learn something new.

Unrealistic to expect a return to the Sweet 16.

its not unreasonable to expect a program that has averaged 26-10 for the last 3 seasons to perform better than 5-10, even with a new coach.
In a vacuum, perhaps not. But we're not in one.
5-10 over 36 games would translate to a 12-24 record, not unrealistic to expect a number smaller than 26 but larger than 12, regardless of actual circumstances.

Regardless of actual circumstances? That's just silly.

I predict something like 16-15. Call me an optimist, if you'd like.

Did you really expect us to make it back to the Sweet 16? Even if Groce had stayed it would have taken special circumstances to make it again. Frankly, I don't blame anybody. It's just how college basketball works. I don't blame JG for taking the Illinois job and I don't blame JC for taking the BC job. They were obvious moves for both(although I didn't see the BC job coming). We would be a significantly better team if JC had stayed but I think in two years we are going to be in good shape. It's just going to take time. But we aren't a very good basketball team this year and IMO we aren't going to be. We can be as good as the other team allows us to be.

Guess what? Next year, we won't be "in shambles" in terms of recruiting. A coach leaves and no one in his recruiting class comes back. New coach comes in and fills all of those schollies, but two are transfers that can't play. Next year both of those guys, who will be GOOD players are here, along with four new faces in a highly touted recruiting class. In all, next year's roster will have EIGHT kids on it that Saul recruited. I guarantee you'll notice the difference because of that reason alone, regardless of how talented they are, and I think they'll be very good. Adding to that, there will be 13 scholarship players instead of 10-11 this year.

If I was an 18 year old recruit, I'd be drawn to Saul. I like the way he delivers his message. I'm not sure what he can squeeze out of this year, but I do believe he will get good results in Athens sooner rather than later.

Coach Phillips finally convinced the guys to shoot 61% overall and 72% from 3.

Wonder why there were so resistant to this strategy?

yes, regardless of the actual circumstances I think expecting this team to win more than 12 games this year is not unreasonable. To say it is unreasonable is just silly.

It is unreasonable because you refuse to consider context. If you had said, "given the circumstances," fine. But expecting more than 12 wins no matter what IS unreasonable.

no, I'm saying even when context is considered my original statement stands.
