Someone in the Stevie and Bean show thread said someone should have set up a Bean thread about how good he was against Kron. I am doing so but I am doing it under the guise that we all understand that he is who we thought he is: a guy who is more "me" first than "team" but is also as electrifying of a scorer as we've had. He is fiery and competitive but streaky and we have to go into every game knowing he may go for 31 or he may struggle for 7. He's not Nick. He's not D.J. He's not Walt and he's not even Jeremy Fears. He is who we thought he is and he should be taken as such instead of the up and down criticism and then love and then criticism and then love.

Bean is an above-average player in terms of offensive efficiency. While he leads the team in terms of shots as a percentage of possessions, it's not that out of whack.

Bean - 26.7%

Tony - 24.6%

Mo - 23.8%

Stevie - 21.0%

Ryan - 17.3%

For posterity, here is the play-by-play of Bean's magical run last night. Took out all of Akron's possessions, these are just Ohio's possessions. Bean scored 17 of  Ohio's 18 points (before he took himself out) and turned an 11-point deficit into a 3-point lead. During the streak, he was 7-for-7 from the floor, including 4-for-4 from three. He scored a point every 22.1 seconds, a pace that would give him 108.5 points in 40 minutes.

Wow. I had that game written off until Bean opened a can of whip-ass.
Yeah, there is no way in hell he can consistently have those kind of games (as we have seen in most games).

It is nice to see him have performances like DePaul and Kron.

I agree he won't have 30pt games all the time. He can, however, have games where he takes good shots, and get's the bigs involved. I thought he also had a really nice passing/distributing game to go with the hot shooting.

He also led the team in rebounds last night.

Hope this leads to more consistency. His numbers in MAC play have been really up-and-down: 15, 5, 18, 3, 27, 9, 3, 14 and 31. After he had 31 against Depaul, Nebraska double-teamed him all night. He still had 15, although it seemed like a lot less. I think most of them came late in the game.

Does BEAN remind anyone of another player everyone hated for the whole season, then fell in love with him for 3 weeks. Only to hate him even more after the season. Check out these points for the 09-10 season.

BEAN < ARMON BASSETT

The problem with Bean being what he is is that he's the man that has the ball in his hands 80% of the time. Bean is much easier to defend than Bassett. Saul said it correct last night in the postgame interview. He said Bean is playing out of position.

It's not the amount of shots he takes.. I think he should be our key shooter.. It's the amount of bad shots he takes.. He's got to let the game come to him instead of forcing too much. Last night was great, but those were a lot of bad shots that happened to fall.

BEAN = ARMON BASSETT?
Good post, Jim. That was a pretty amazing stretch of games for AB. Let's hope Bean catches that same fever come March (or now, as long as it extends into March).

No doubt about this one.

Bean gives me some hope to dream on March and making some noise in the MAC Tourney.

I made this comparison before the season started... As I said then, it isn't a perfect match but you are blind if you do not see some obvious similarities.

Ready to get a little freaked out on how close of a season Bean is haveing to AB. Stat lines for the first 19 games this year and 09-10

MIN
BEAN 628
AB 605

RBS
BEAN 61
AB 63

AST
BEAN 61
AB 59

STL
BEAN 15
AB 19

TO
BEAN 50

Perhaps, I was hallucinating, but I thought I saw Bean play defense a few times last night.

Many parts of Wednesday's game DID feel like a hallucination.

Obvious similarities in that they both can shoot and score a lot of points if given the opportunity and when open? Sure, but in terms of skill Armon is waaaaaaay ahead. It's not even close. And I'm not an Armon guy or a Bean hater, it's just kind of obvious when watching them play.

Bean doesn't have a guy whose jersey will hang in the rafters feeding him or quite the cast of other support that AB enjoyed. Having a true big, VK, who brought the defenses away from the lane perhaps made taking it to the hole a bit easier too.
